2 -- This song was co-written with Joe Walsh. If you look in the dictionary under "Average", it's this song's picture. I recently played Ringo's OLD WAVE album for the first time in not nearly long enough. It's a terrible effort (except for his cover of SHE'S ABOUT A MOVER), and I can understand why this LP was only released in Germany and Canada but not anywhere else.

I voted it a 2. Has a catchy opening but doesn't really go much of anywhere from there. Certainly competent and pleasant, but not quite enough happening for me to give it a 3.

here are the lyrics..
Lyrics to In My Car : (Joe Walsh, Richard Starkey, Mo Foster and Kim Goody)
Doesn't make a diff'rence, Don't care how far. We can go the distance in my car.
Don't bother with directions, Doesn't matter where we are. Cruisin' down the highway in my car.
Hey!
In my car.
I don't need no back seat drivers, So i leave them all behind. And problems, they can't find me in my car.
In my car.
Hey! In my car. (in my car) (in my car) (in my car) (my car)

I gave it a 1.. These guys are professional musicians, they haven't really made much of an effort here.. Speaking generally about professional musicians/songwriters, why wouldn't they play a song like this back after recording it and say amongst themselves, is that the best we can come up with or can't we be bothered...that applies to any artist, not just Walsh and Starr. Baffles me sometimes....

I gave it a 1.. These guys are professional musicians, they haven't really made much of an effort here.. That's a good way of putting it. There seems to be no effort... the song is very lethargic and indifferent-sounding. It just sort of lies there to me.

3. I like this one and the cover JoeK mentioned, "She's About A Mover."
Some Ringo fans have latched onto the decided obscurity of this album calling it the "lost Ringo classic" in the vein of Smile or something.
I certainly don't think that but I also feel it is not the worst album in Ringo's canon.
I like two aforementioned songs moderately well and I was thinking there was even a third I liked off Old Wave.
It is notable and important in the sense that Ringo started doing all of his album drumming which he had not exclusively done on the older albums. He'd bring Jim Keltner in even in the studio.
I read that Joe Walsh really insisted Ringo do his own drumming and exclusively because: (1) it would make Ringo really be more involved in the music and (2) he was Ringo Starr for crying out loud and Ringo doesn't need other drummers on his albums!
If I'm not wrong, Ringo has done almost all of his album drumming since Old Wave with some guest appearances.

I don't think he drummed on the Chip Moman album, which is in fact a "lost" album as it wasn't released anywhere.

1.5 It takes four people to come up with this wisp of a song? I like the guitar sound, but Car soon runs out of gas.

I actually like this trifle of a song. Amateurish lyrics, to be sure, but Ringo is in good voice and Joe Walsh's guitar works wonders. 3.

I like Old Wave and it's one of Ringo's best, much better than any Hudson effort.
This is a nice little catchy pop tune with abit of Joe Walsh edge.

3. I'm a huge Joe Walsh fan. Nice to hear a pretty happy tune from the boys. I guess I'd have to be tooling around in my car listening to this one at top volume to really get the full effect.

Alright, one I like AND haven't heard before. They are asking for $180 for Old Wave on Amazon.com. That's more than I'm paying for Paul's cds.
Putting this back in the 80s adds to the charm. Why wasn't this a hit?
3.0. I'm tempted to go up to 3.5.

I bought a vinyl copy of OLD WAVE just two months ago at the Fest For Beatles Fans in New Jersey. I got it for $30, which is still at least $10 more than I wanted to pay, but it is rather rare. And for me, not a good album at all.
