4 -- Great classic rock from John. It should have been included on the first LP version of ROCK N ROLL back in 1975.

Here are the lyrics..
It's just like heaven being here with you. You're like an angel, too good to be true. But after all, i love you, i do. Angel baby, my angel baby.
Uh, uh, i love you, uh, uh, i do, no one can love you like i do.
Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh.
When you are near me my heart skips a beat. I can hardly stand on my own two feet. Because i love you, i love you, i do. Angel baby, my angel baby.
Uh, uh, i love you, uh, uh, i do, no one can love you like i do.
Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh.
(yeh!)
Please, never leave me blue and alone. If you ever go, i'm sure you'll come back home. Because i love you, i love you, i do. Angel baby, my angel baby.
Uh, uh, i love you, uh, uh, i do, no one can love you like i do.
Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh. Uh

Lennon's vocal on this song in parts approaches falsetto..
I have been informed by this board that if it's not Paul that's doing falsetto then it must be sped up..
i wonder if that's true in this rather produced song...
Anyway...apart from that...i give it a 3

3 I like the idea of John doing this song. It is one I'm not familiar with. It has a classic old time rock ballad feel.

2. I don't think the production suits the song. Phil Spector's work, I assume. Rosie and the Originals' original version sounds nothing like this. Lennon gives a good performance though, I concede. Why was this left off the Rock 'N' Roll Album?

Why was this left off the Rock 'N' Roll Album? I'm not sure. But there is one interview with John (it may be the 1975 Old Grey Whistle Test one) where he talks about the drunken sessions for the album which descended into craziness and he adds something like: "I mean, ANGEL BABY is a phenomenal track", as he laughs. It comes across as though he's saying ANGEL BABY may have been one of those "wild" moments.

3. Good vocal performance by John. To understand John musically, one must accept that John loved romantic Rock And Roll sugar goo like "Angel Baby" and "Mr. Moonlight."

3. I like that one. The production doesn't ruin it as it does for some of the other RnR tracks.

3.5. Great, haunted vocal by John. Really captures that '50s feel. Have no idea why this didn't make the cut because its better than all the dreary crap on the Rocknroll album.

I guess this is one of the better songs on Rock and Roll but it is still in very deep low territory.
I know John was always very self-critical of his work, his voice but did he just have sycophants around telling him this was great.
What about Spector. Did he like this? Maybe that's why Phil kidnapped the tapes, because he knew they sucked.
I can't go higher than a 1.0 on this.

Just Because was the real drunk obscene song. "I want to suck your n**ples. ... Just a little cocaine will set right right back up on my feet...."
