George Martin and Brian Epstein move unanimously into the final four, Pete Best takes down Mal Evans 5-2 and Stu Sutcliffe edges Neil Aspinall 4-3.
The latter vote surprised me. I think Neil's long association with the group, particularly post-breakup makes him a major candidate for the overused "5th Beatle" label.
In any case, i took the suggestion of putting the musicians together so the final four matchups are:
1-George Martin vs. Brian Epstein
2-Pete Best vs. Stu Sutcliffe

1-George Martin vs. Brian Epstein This is a tough one. But I think what was done in the studio is more important to the legacy of the Beatles than the touring, and the pr. Of course Brian's hard work and persistence is what got them to George Martin and the studio where they could do their magic. More important, maybe Brian. But 5th Beatle? George Martin.
2-Pete Best vs. Stu Sutcliffe - again, another tough one, but I have to give it to Pete. Stu was more important to the personality of the Beatles but Pete kept them playing. He added more to the music end. But then again, if Stu was a better musician than fable has it ....

George Martin and Pete Best.
George Martin pretty much is the biggest 5th Beatle throughout their history in my opinion.

Brian Epstein over George Martin, without Brian they would never have met George, Brian opened up all the doors for them.
Pete vs Stu, my head says Pete but my heart says Stu, John was very close to Stu and they were the heart and soul at the beginning. Then Stu meets Astrid and decides that it's not for him and Pete Best did put in alot of hours.
hmm ok ...

I give George Martin the edge over Brian. While Brian did come first and got them to George Martin, Martin had a big impact on the music both by what he did (and didn't) do. The music is what made them great and Brian had little to do with that.
I'm going with Stu over Pete. Stu was a big influence on John. He was important to their "style" early on. Pete didn't influence anyone (except for BATB).

The reason I choose George Martin over Brian (and anyone else) is because Martin produced them, and also played instruments on their actual songs, more than anyone else did. Martin is a participant in the actual Beatles songs in many cases. And when he did not actually play on the tracks, he arranged things and made their ideas come true (such as what he did in editing two takes for STRAWBERRY FIELDS).
