Last week another American television icon for those of the Beatles generation died: Don Grady who played big-man-on-campus Robbie Douglas on the long-running(1960-1972)- hit "My Three Sons." Don Grady as Robbie Douglas in the early(and best) years of "My Three Sons"I was just little but Robbie Douglas was so cool, he was the big brother everyone wanted back then! I wanted to mention this separately from Andy Griffith as Grady wasn't as big of a star but his character was huge among young television viewers. Andy Griffith was an adult even in the early Sixties but the Robbie Douglas character was one of us, a young person who went through changes on the show including hair length, etc. Don Grady's death really hits home that we are the old generation now. R.I.P. to Don Grady a/k/a Robbie Douglas and some more of our youth is gone.

Brother Chip Douglas went on to become the bassist for the Turtles and the Monkees and youngest brother Ernie Douglas grew up to become SU hoop coach Jim Boeheim. Honestly I don't remember seeing ANY of the early seasons with the 4th brother that mysteriously was written out of existance (Chuck? or was that Happy Days??) and Uncle Fred Mertz.

.....and youngest brother Ernie Douglas grew up to become SU hoop coach Jim Boeheim. ;D You might be serious on Chip! Robbie was actually the middle brother when the show started. Tim Considine played older brother Mike who was a hot-rodder and cool. A little wilder I think than Robbie. He was married off at the beginning of the 65-66 season and never seen again and only mentioned four more times for the rest of the show per Wikipedia! Mike was not even shown when Robbie got married nor the dad! Considine had a dispute I guess with the show's producers. I would love to watch Season 1 which is said to be by far the best, being directed exclusively by Peter Tewksbury. There were comical episodes but serious episodes. My memory is that by 1972 it was just plain boring with step-daughter Dodie added. Don Grady was in the musical group Yellow Balloon with a Top 30 hit of the same name: Original line-up

I had such a huge crush on Tim Considine from when he was Spin and Marty on the old Mickey Mouse Club. Then he was Mike on My Three Sons and that was so cool.
Don Grady was a really talented guy--from being a Mouseketeer to playing Robbie from adolescence into young adulthood, to Yellow Balloon to composing lots of movie and TV music. Too young to leave us.

I might You Tube some of that stuff you mention scousette like Spin and Marty and Don Grady on the Mickey Mouse Club. Doesn't Don Grady's death hit home? I mean he is forever Robbie Douglas and one thinks of him as the eternal college age guy(or high school for the show's Firsties).

RIP in peace Don, and thx for the memories........Never will forget the 60's, as a kid......By far the best decade ever for music and TV I never missed an episode of My Three Sons (or Gilligan, Jeannie, Thunderbirds,,lol, or Get Smart etc) I sometimes forget these shows were shown around the world! Don't hold some of the American TV shows against us! ;D I was just a tyke when "My Three Sons" was still running and while I watched it every week, I can't say that I laughed during it or that it even gave me pleasure. I watched it because it was on and had kids on it. I might have been one of those of the "generation lost in space" as sung in "American Pie". "Lost In Space" was a biggie for me that I did enjoy greatly. I was only 4 or 5 so I could grasp what was going on in it unlike "Star Trek" which bored me as a tiny child. But how can Robbie Douglas be dead? Mike Douglas is still alive(Tim Considine) so they could do a reunion where they gather for Robbie's funeral. Chip and Ernie would be there and they could honor Steven Douglas(Fred MacMurray). Chip Douglas today. Ernie Douglas today(the kid our MikeV decided would be the coolest kid in the world to emulate as a kid himself in 1969, setting Mike's social life back decades!) Good call by the way Mike as Ernie does look like your favorite NCAA Men's Basketball Coach! Mike Douglas today who must return to regroup the Douglas family after the devastating loss of Robbie. Mike, you've been skirting your duties as oldest son for 47 years now! No wonder scousette thinks this guy is hot, he's almost Tony Hicks league! Robbie Douglas(Don Grady) R.I.P.

Sayyyyyy..... but you're right- I only watched the show because it had kids on it. I also preferred Lost in Space over Star Trek, though Dr. Smith today would be portrayed by Jerry Sandusky ;D Oh Willlllll....oh the painnnnnnnn....ohhhhhhhhhh.
