Time to look at the overlooked songs from George's solo career:
1. Run Of The Mill-lyrically very strong. An unusual song-not set up with traditional verses or chorus.
2. Beware Of Darkness-another strong song lyrically and some excellent slide guitar.
3. Don't Let Me Wait Too Long-very catchy. Should have been the 2nd single from LITMW.
4. Miss O'Dell-George shows his humorous side on the B side of "Give Me Love".
5. Beautiful Girl-described by Nicholas Schafner in BEATLES FOREVER as sounding like a "lost RUBBER SOUL track"
6. Your Love Is Forever-the best love song of George's solo career.
7. Love Comes To Everyone-should have been a big hit. Features Clapton on guitar.
8. Faster-George effectively mixes his spiritual side with the world of auto racing.
9. This Is Love-upbeat catchy track from CLOUD NINE.
10. Cheer Down-sounded fantastic the few times I heard it on the radio. This soundtrack cut should have been a huge hit.
That is a great list for this task!
As panther noted, I would add "If That's What It Takes" as that is the song that clinched me on the greatness of
Cloud Nine. I was out of my seat excited when first hearing the title song C9 but that all important second album track just told my heart that George had scored a great album(with Jeff Lynne's production and some songwriting help).
From your list Coach, I would only slightly quibble with "Cheer Down" but I do like it.
I guess I can't limit myself to ten and as Simon Leng has made me realize, all of George's solo career is overlooked although a lot of that is because George chose not to promote himself like most pop stars.
I would want "Fish On The Sand," and several from
Brainwashed like "Any Road," "Pisces Fish," "Looking for My Life," "Rising Sun," "Marwa Blues," "Stuck Inside a Cloud" and "Brainwashed" (with "Namah Parvati").
Wow, I don't know where I'd stop as to George. I love 33 1/3's "Woman Don't You Cry For Me." "That's the Way It Goes" would get a nod.
I'll try to shave my list to ten as requested.
