Went through an agonizing day yesterday with my wife's computer that was having problems and slowing our home network down. The original problems had me calling our ISP and the company that made our router and modem since the ISP (AT&T) pointed at the modem and also wanted to get me to buy a support package from them, which the router/modem company, TP-LINK, doesn't charge for. (AT&T said they did.)
Bottom line: It looks like now the problem was malware. I've never seen it affect the whole network like it did. I used two programs to fix it: Malwarebytes (free) and SuperAnti Spyware Remover (paid version). Both are available from CNET.com. I'd used both in the past and they worked great again. I suggest if you don't have them, you might want to consider it. SuperAntiSpyware is only $29 for lifetime updates. And they're not paying me to say this.

As it turns out, it was the modem. It needed a firmware upgrade. Also added a new ethernet cable. And here I thought I knew about computers. However, I fixed it. Total cost of repairs: $6.

I'm using my spare computer at the moment..(Vista)
My Windows 7 computer won't boot up, i took the hard drive out and put it in this computer and it booted to windows 7 so i backed everything up, it must be a hardware issue, i need to spend some time investigating the issue, darn nuisance....

I've just had a week of misery. Terrible connectivity with my mobile broadband service from Vodafone. Internet Explorer almost usless; Mozilla Firefox seriously slowed. Then today everything is suddenly alright again! Computers and associated products are wonderful and useful things, but completely unreliable.
