RIP Neil....... Never forget 1969, Apollo 11, The Beatles, Elvis, Vietnam War, it was unbelievable...... Remember being a 9yr in Grade 4, taken to our school theatre where our Black & White TV was continuously on, half the school crammed in that one room, watching Neil set foot for the first time on the moon Those were the days, life was so simple, no computers, iphones etc, the 60's were the best......

Neil Armstrong was the real deal, a true hero humankind could be proud of and a lot of that was how profoundly humble he was yet with a resume one could only dream about.
Kids today or even kids born after this event forget how big the first moonwalk was. I didn't realize this until today but as a beautiful gesture, Armstrong placed a medallion on the moon that honored both U.S. astronauts and U.S.S.R. cosmonauts who had perished pursuing their and the world's dreams.

Don't forget Woodstock! I was there for all of 15 minutes! We camped nearby on the Delaware River on a Boy Scout Canoe trip. Some of us went to the festival and tried to approach the grandstand. It was a sea of humans everywhere so we gave up and went back to our campsite. I was at Boy Scout camp in July when they landed on the moon. I listened in my tent on a transistor radio to the whole thing. '69 was quite a year, especially the summer! Sadly, it was the end for The Beatles...

Were you in summer school that year? Apollo 11 landed on the moon on July 20, 1969. I agree, no computers, iphones etc.! So happy I lived in the 60's; not to mention The Beatles!!

Well, if you're going to be a "one-hit wonder," I guess being the first on the moon is pretty good. It is interesting how his feat seems to be so underrated and underappreciated. He was a very unassumming guy, but still, the shear lack of monuments, schools, awards, and so on in his name seems shameful.

It was mid-winter for us. I remember the day too. I was walking to school with my friend when the kid who lived next door approached us from the opposite direction, walking away from the school. He told us that we did not have to attend that day, because of the moon landing. Those children who had arrived at school a bit early were herded into a hall, there to sit and watch proceedings on TV for the rest of the day. When the hall was filled everyone else got the day off. Me and my friend couldn't believe our luck. I watched on TV at home.

Hey KC, not sure if you remember, or whether it happened during that period in Adelaide......But here in Melbourne we saw snow falling in our City for the first time (only happened twice in my lifetime here??)......Unbelievable, Neil first step on the moon one day, then first snow falling in our town/city the next.......

Yeah Woodstock forgot that, the films, I was into cars, esp the Mustang, Comic Books, X-Men, Avengers etc........ Cool decade, even the fashion eg...girls with short skirts and long boots were everywhere (even shifty young Rocko luved looking at them....lol) Oh well, it only came once, brilliant decade, the 70's was somewhat similar.......

I've never known it to snow on metropolitan Adelaide itself. Doubt if it has ever happened. Occasionally, like once every ten years or so, there has been a very light snowfall on parts of the nearby Adelaide Hills.
