For the life of me I don't know how they keep the Space Shuttle on that jumbo jet. That jet is going slower and much lower than normal but it is still going fast. And how can the jumbo jet not constantly roll and nose-dive with that bulky, awkward thing on it! I did read the authorities are cutting down a ton of trees so the Endeavor can be rolled down the street to its final resting place in some museum. The neighbors are up in arms as hundreds of trees are getting axed. Some chap brilliantly observed(and he's right): "We can land an unmanned vehicle on Mars millions of miles away but we can't figure out how to transport the Space Shuttle 12 miles without cutting down all of our damn trees!" ;D Related, I watched on TV a recent splashdown with astronauts in a Russian capsule. How retro! We are talking about Beatles vinyl in another thread but to see a space capsule falling to Earth with three or four massive parachutes takes me back to 1969! The Space Shuttle was a pretty cool way to retrieve men in space-stations.
