Oh you sound so sweet tonight lowbasso! ;D It is amazing news isn't it!? I.U. rises from the ashes to a pre-season #1 ranking! This will be a fun season for Hoosier fans. lowbasso, my stepson went to hear Coach Knight speak last night somewhere here in Indiana and it was inspirational at times, hilarious at times, profane at times and very moving at times! Bobby got choked up talking about the support he still gets from I.U. fans. He hasn't forgiven the university yet but he still loves the fans. I hope I.U. and Bobby Knight can someday reconcile where Knight is honored at a basketball game in a big way. Weren't you there on campus and watched repeatedly the 1974/1975 and 1975/1976 teams, two of the best mens' college basketball teams of all time, the latter undefeated? Here is a link and photo of Coach Knight last night: www.indystar.com/article/20121018/SPORTS0601/121018045/Stories-flow-from-Bob-Knight-during-Greenwood-library-fundraiser?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|IndyStar.com|s

Kentucky at number 2 and Louisville at number 3. I'd reverse the order if it were me, but I don't mind the company here.

Had floor seats under the rim for the home game with Michigan State that year that went into Overtime before IU finally won. They almost lost because a Mich. St. freshman named Ervin "Magic" Johnson practically stole the game away from us. We were all blown away by how good this 18 year-old kid was.... Cut classes the day after IU beat Michigan in the NCAA Final that year (Can you believe TWO Big 10 teams made it to the Final round that season), so we could be at Assembly Hall parking lot when the team bus rolled in from Philadelphia where they had played the night before. Remember the Fab Five holding the trophy up; Scottie May, Kent Benson, Quinn Buckner, Bobby Wilkerson, & Tom Abernathy. They went 32-0 that year. And the year before they were 31-1. Would have won that year if Scottie May hadn't broken his arm. So over two seasons IU was 63-1. No NCAA Division I team since the '76 Hoosiers has ever gone undefeated in a season. So they've had that record for 36 years now.

lowbasso, tonight is Hoosier Hysteria at Assembly Hall where Coach Tom Crean opens the Hall to fans(who fill it up) just for the "first" night of official practice. Of course practice opened last Saturday but it was Fall Break and Coach wanted the students on campus to pump up the team. It is a week late.
LOL, Coach Bobby Knight would never had this become so sho-biz! There is a dunk contest and they turn the lights off and have spotlights like an NBA team intro with loud rap music! LMAO. Coach Knight would have had none of that! Can you imgine Knight with loud rap music blasting in the Hall!?
He yelled at us to shut-up over his microphone when we welcomed the 1987 National Champs home in Asembly Hall like Beatlemania! ;D
Second, we didn't have "Fall Break" did we lowbasso! Hell, we had class on Labor Day and that is a fact. College kids these days are spoiled!

Hell, we had class on Labor Day and that is a fact. College kids these days are spoiled! No, we never had a day off from first day of classes in August until Thanksgiving. I used to work stage crew at the Musical Arts Center when I was there in the late 70's. We were sent over to Assembly Hall one afternoon to pick up some risers. Basketball team was practicing. We walked in and Knight turned and screamed so many obscenities at us we turned and ran out of the building. Went back to the MAC and told our boss he could go get the risers himself if he wanted them so bad. We had to wait until we were sure the basketball team was not in the building before we were sent back to get the risers. When people saw Knight in a restaurant or store in Bloomington in those days, most were afraid to even say hello to him. It was like Adolph Hitler had just walked into the room....

LOL, great story lowbasso! Bob Knight was a clean, rule-abiding Coach and does many good things people don't realize like giving a ton of money to the I.U. Library to keep it world-class and has raised money to this day for Landon Turner, a good player on the 1981 National Champs who was paralyzed for life after a carwreck, but he is not a teddy bear! There may be some "Mean Joe Green Coca Cola Commercial Moments" with Knight where he is soft when no one is looking but that is rare and if one approaches him it better be politely and with a "Coach" Knight or "Mr." Knight and not "Bobby" or "General." ;D My run-ins with him have always been good because I kept my mouth shut and stepped out of his way!

. . . Bob Knight . . . does many good things people don't realize like giving a ton of money . . . and has raised money . . . Yeah, and so did Papa Joe. Not suggesting Bobby Knight has done anything like what happened at Penn State, but lots of people seem to think that giving a lot to charity tells a lot about ones character. There are also people who give to charity who feel that that gives them license to do what they want. I, for one, don't think that ones accomplishments matter more than HOW one reached those accomplishments. I prefer the Dean Smith/Bill Walsh way of coaching rather than the Bobby Knight/Bill Belichek way.

I don't disagree with that sayne. I was simply pointing out that Coach Knight did a lot of good things because I was heading to my point that he is not a warm and fuzzy guy at all and in fact is perhaps one of the most disagreeable persons in the world(to put it nicely). Yet, he isn't a total waste of space or air because he did do some very good things. He does very obnoxious and mean stuff too though. For every man who played for Knight and loves him, there is a man who played for him and despises him! I love Coach Knight because at least he stood for something but I am not naive to think he gives a crap about me or what I think. To be fair though, I wanted to note that he did some some good things in his life. His bad stuff is not as bad as Paterno's sin of omission as to Sandusky!

Bob Knight does not deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Joe Paterno or Penn State. Paterno looked the other way while he knew young boys were being molested in his school facility. They were unforgivable, disgusting, sick, and illegal actions that took place by his lieutenant, and he did nothing to stop it.
Bobby Knight did not engage in nor sanction anything of that kind of behavior at his school. Bob is only guilty of having a personality that he had difficulty in controlling around his games, students, players, and the public in general. His lack of control in certain situations cost him his job at Indiana, but in addition to his charitable work, he always made sure his kids graduated, and if they could not keep their grades up in classes, they were not allowed to participate in basketball. The Landon Turner accident has always been Knight's own personal tragedy. He has always made sure that after Landon was permanently injured in the accident, and his career in basketball was ended, that Knight would make sure he (Landon) would have every opportunity at school to finish his degrees, and his life after school taken care off personally by Knight. Knight's philosophy on playing basketball was always hard to embrace by his players, because it was so defense oriented, and opposite of the more popular fast-paced offensive strategy most used in college and the pros. Just ask Larry Bird, who lasted less than two weeks at IU as a freshman before transferring to Indiana State to have his college career. And Isiah Thomas left after his sophomore year and the 1981 championship to go pro. Bobby paid the price of his uncontrollable temper, and after a number of incidents, in which he was warned by the President of the University he was treading on thin ice, lost his job at Indiana. And he had no one to blame but himself. But he coached Indiana to three national championships in his era. And those teams won because they embraced his style of play, which proved it was possible to win with it.

Wait a minute, what happened!? I didn't stay up to watch but I presumed UCLA would win and play us late tonight(the game is at like 10:00 p.m. our time). Lowbasso, you must have had a blast! I was nervous in the First Half but we pulled away in the Second. Coach Knight did color commentary on ESPNU.

It was a sea of red in Brooklyn last night. Bobby Knight was sitting just below us doing ccommentary. When he came back onto the court after the halftime, we yelled to him "Hey Bobby, we love you man! Hail to the General!!" He just had his typical grumpy look on his face and didn't look up. IU did NOT play like a #1 team last night against Georgia. Cody Zeller was held to 6 points. Now, today I understand he has had the flu for the last week. So we'll cut him some slack. IU has a deep bench, so they should be ok going forward. It was great to scream and yell GO IU for a couple of hours like I did 32 years ago when I was a student in Bloomington!

Yee haw, I.U. beat a good Georgetown team to win the Legend's Classic! We let a five point lead evaporate but dominated in Overtime.
Butler(from Indianapolis) is back, beating #9 North Carolina in Hawaii! I.U. will play both Butler and North Carolina within weeks(N.C. next week in fact).

No 3 Indiana's playing No 1 Michigan. So far, so good. Up by 15! I realized about 10 minutes after I posted this that I had started the game on dvr about an hour and 15 minutes after it had started. Around the time that I posted this, it was pretty neck and neck. I might have looked like I was being a smart a$ if someone was actually reading this. But I bet nobody want's to look at a thread on basketball, while they are watching a game. I think everyone watches sports with a delay. They would be afraid they would hear a spoiler. SO if I say "Yeah, Go Indiana. Indiana, number 1". It's not going to spoil it for anyone.

Big Choke for the Cuse 2 nite. I'm a Louisville fan. I thought we were beat. That final score doesn't tell the story. Syracuse played a damn good game. They beat us earlier in the season. This could be Louisville's year. If we can get past Indiana. John, I'm pulling for them until we're on the same court.
