Im trying to find the best Beatles live performances either released or bootlegged. Does any one have any ideas where and what to get? My die hard friend says the MBE performance was one.

Wow. Well, the Hollywood Bowl ones are great. (They've all been booted and there's video of the '64 show.) The Sam Houston Coliseum one (audio only, I think) is another good one. Just watched the Aussie '64 one last night, though video for some of those songs are missing. Most of the really good ones were in '64 and '65. In '66, they were tired of it all and it showed. The Japan shows are pretty bad. I think the Hollywood Bowl '64 one is the best.
But also good is the Sullivan shows. The Bowl shows are better, though.

I think the Sweden 1963 radio concert ranks as one of their best live performances. Shea Stadium definitely for it's historic value. And the 1965 Paris concert is also an excellent show to consider. The crowd there was mostly male and it sounds pretty much like a modern day concert and you can hear the Beatles, especially John, really enjoying the experience because they can be heard and they're giving it their all.
Found a couple of YouTube clips, looks like the Sweden concert was also on TV. In the Paris footage you can see that there were a lot of males at this concert.
Sweden - 1963
Paris - 1965

There are a couple of Hollywood Bowl shows on Bootleg that are quite good.....
1 from August 64 and another from August 65......
How do you get a copy...that is the question.....
We dont really share downloads on this site,it probably protects the owner from being whacked by an Apple.....

I'm not sure this answers your question or helps you with any purchases, but as for a single song performance, I absolutely love the Beatles very first American concert at Washington Stadium when they played "I Saw Her Standing There". It was so vibrant, exuberant, thrilling, and IT ROCKED. George played great lead, but the star of the song was Ringo - bashing away, in great time, with his drums shaking. That one is it for me.

Trading off the board, though, is your business.

I was nearly going to download the '66 Japan shows and I listened to the previews before I was about to.
They were awful so I didn't bother and it's a shame because by '66 they had a great setlist and some of those songs like Paperpack Writer and Daytripper should have rocked harder than the rock of Gibraltar but they were very wooden rubber band sounding performances.
On Anthology 1 there are some live performances from somewhere that were fantastic. I think that is when they were at their best live.

Hi, Hands down best recorded and best performance live is 'Boys' from the Hollywood Bowl album, this song alone proves how awesome they could be live, and this also proves the point that Ringo was the best rock drummer ever. As for Shea, it's either a rerecording, a mix of live and being rerecorded or lifted from the Hollywood Bowl recordings, so to me Shea sort of does not really count. Anything from 1966? Greg.

That's on Anthology 2. He probably means the Sweden concert. That's right, at the end of the first disc. Money sounded really good for back then. There'a probably other great performances from '63-'65 but I thought the Blackpool one wasn't so good. The guitar sound was twangy when it should have been electric, if that makes any sense.

Anything from 1966? Greg. ...with the possible exception of "Nowhere Man" from Hamburg and, surprisingly, "Rock 'n' Roll Music" and "She's a Woman" from Tokyo (good enough to go on Anthology video and CD, respectively)

I agree 110% with this. Boys on the Hollywood Bowl LP is the Major Highlight. It is better than the Studio Version which I can't say for any of the other tracks(with the Possible exception of She's A Woman from the same LP). These Two Tracks are My Very Favorite Beatles Live Moments!!! Glad I wasn't alne on the Live Version of Boys!!!

I have a particular soft spot for If I Fell from Vancouver - John and Paul clearly get a fit of the giggles, and it strongly brings home to you that this was still essentially four young lads having a laff.

I'm amazed that nobody has mentioned "I'm Down" from Shea Stadium. John is totally wild, playing the organ with his elbow. He and George are totally cracking up. Ringo is doing his thing well, as always. Paul is the complete professional singing his heart out. When he turns around and sees John and George hamming it up he gets a big smile on his face. It is one of my favorite Beatle moments. I also love the live version of "Money" that is on Anthology 1. It is almost punk in terms of primative energy. "Sheila" from the Hamburg Star Club is another favorite. Great drumming from Ringo. I love the full version of "Shout". I think it is the only song where each Beatle gets to do a solo vocal.

Agreed about "I'm Down." I'm sorry I didn't mention that one.

Best performances for my money are: Some Other Guy - Cavern - '62 - Wow! Early Beatles in the Cavern looking cool and showing the spark that ignited the world Roll Over Beethoven - Empire Liverpool '63 - Grittiest Harrsion vocal on this song ever Long Tall Sally - Sweden '63 (TV) - Instrumental section almost feels like a raucous jam session I Wanna Be Your Man - Washington DC '64 - Ringo just kicks ass on the drums and vocals Boys - Indianapolis - '64 - Listen to Ringo with rawest emotion You Can't Do That - NME '64 - John fighting his microphone and screaming way too early assuming the instrumental part was upon them LOL I'm Down - Shea '65 - Paul at his rocking best. John off the wall. Priceless Get Back - Rooftop '69. 1st version. Paul is so happy to perform live that the song his full of his whoops and hollars. Regards, Beatle Bob

I recently got the Indianapolis '64 concert. I like it better than the Hollywood Bowl concert. The qualty is almost as good and it seems to have more of an edge to it.

One of my other favorite things about live Beatles performances is the dry humor by Lennon when it's his turn to introduce a song. It's something that all other bands lacked and suffer because of there's only ONE Lennon! Regards, Beatle Bob

I also love the version of "If I Needed Somone" from Candlestick park. Even though the quality of the recording is average, the performance (especially Paul's harmonizing) of the song is fantastic. It's a MUCH tighter version than the one they did in Japan. -Dave
