Merry Christmas (or happy whatever) everyone! Stay safe! Thank you, and same to you all. I'm off to Italy again on Christmas Day. Will be back January 4th. Happy Holidays! We need to put the X back in X-mas! ;D Sayne I always picture you as Michael from The Godfather when he is whisked away to Italy (or Sicily) after he shoots the other Don and the dirty cop. You are wandering the hills with two armed guards looking for wine, great food, and beautiful local women. I need to get out of Indiana more!

. . . You are wandering the hills with two armed guards looking for wine, great food, and beautiful local women . . . Well, the first two. My wife will be armed. Let's just say she's old school - Lorena Bobbett School. ;D ;D ;D

Yes, Merry/Happy Christmas to one and all! My beautiful wife got me both Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine on BluRay. Also a guitar keyring that plays "She Loves You" and some Doctor Who and Star Trek stuff. All in all a great "haul"!

From our friends at Wikipedia: "Xmas is a common abbreviation of the word Christmas . It is sometimes pronounced /ˈɛksməs/, but it, and variants such as Xtemass, originated as handwriting abbreviations for the typical pronunciation /ˈkrɪsməs/. The "-mas" part is from the Latin-derived Old English word for Mass,[1] while the "X" comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word ×ñéóôüò, translated as "Christ".[2] There is a common misconception that the word Xmas stems from a secular attempt to remove the religious tradition from Christmas[3] by taking the "Christ" out of "Christmas"." Some Christians get all freaked out over "X-mas" but I must say that oh so clever people like John and Yoko also got it wrong because they used "X-mas" to avoid printing the word "Christ" but they essentially used the Greek abbreviation for it! Happy X-mas!

Yo JSD,
Just thought I'd mention that I've always fully understood that the "X" is not trying to 'remove Christ from Christmas'. But since that's the case, I've never understood the reluctance (or downright phobia, if you like), to actually avoid writing the word "Christmas" anyway.
As for John and Yoko - who says they used "X" to avoid using "Christ"? I've never thought they used it for that reason.
And let's face it, you're the one who first said "let's put the X back in X-mas". That's what more suggests other implications (like keep Christ out of it); not the term on its own...

Hi, Everyone. I'm in Florence, Italy, but my luggage is in Pisa. Don't ask.
Still full of good cheer. It won't be too bad wearing day old underwear or brushing my teeth with the booze that's in the room's fridge. Now THAT's putting holiday spirits to good use. ;D

But wait until you get the bill for the booze in the room fridge.....but then again if you went to Italy then you can afford the marked-up booze in the fridge! ;D Have fun. Just go commando, free those boys for a couple days until your luggage arrives.

Good gifts. Did you watch the Dr. Who Christmas special? Yes! Did you want to take this to a separate thread? Yeah I don't mind. My two boys love Dr. Who and I've watched it all my life. My sons are 12 and 4 and even the 4 year old loves it and is somewhat of an expert. Currently I am making the four year old a TARDIS out of cardboard. It is about 26cm high, big enough for his Dr. Who figures. He was pretty impressed at my TARDIS as a work in progress but he did ask me how I was going to make it bigger on the inside! Now there are a lot of things parents can do that must seem like magic to children but manipulating time and relative dimension in space is not one of them! 9
