For us youngest First Generation David Cassidy fans, it was a shock when we learned that Susan Dey was not singing and playing electric keyboards, that Danny Bonaduce was not playing those roller coaster bass-lines and that Master Jeremy Gelbwaks was not laying down the beat(I don't care what anyone says, Suzanne Crough had to be playing tambourine because if Linda McCartney could then this seven year old child could too!). Our second great shock was learning that Shirley Jones was not David's biological mother but we took some comfort in knowing that she was his real life step-mother. I thus learned of Evelyn Ward in my first paperback biography of David and instantly she became like a second mom to me albeit one who was sensual and smoking hot in her day! Evelyn at her Broadway bestA sizzling hot but proud Mother! For many years I was bitter that the world fawned over Shirley Jones and said how good she was to Davide while poor Evelyn was all but forgotten, apparently blackballed in fickle entertainment world by a vicious and often drunk Jack Cassidy! But David, an only child, loved his mother dearly and stood by her even as the ravages of Alzheimer's disease destroyed her mind. I was too grief-stricken to post this so thanks to Fred for doing the sad task. God bless Evelyn Ward and thank you Evelyn for giving us David, among the most beloved Pop Idols of all times!
