Have we seen this? The restored part looks better than what's been out there all along. At about 1:30, I'm thinking "Damn, it's the Beatles playing the Cavern".
And then there's this. The QuarryMen doing "I'll Follow the Sun".

Thanks for posting that, debjorgo! The first time I showed my wife the Cavern clip, she said, "My G-d! Who are those children?"

Thanks for posting that, debjorgo! The first time I showed my wife the Cavern clip, she said, "My G-d! Who are those children?" But has this whole song been available before? I thought what we used to see was from a Liverpool news program on a local band who was drawing crowds. The quality was never any good. You can tell that this is spliced together from different sources.

You can tell that this is spliced together from different sources. I recall that a British TV network (or company) named Granada went to the Cavern to film The Beatles in Aug. 1962 as they were becoming quite popular at the time in the Liverpool area. And they were about to go to London to record with Parlophone for the first time. The TV footage was partially used in the Anthology series, but this is the first time I have seen it this complete and in such good quality. Not sure if it is all from the Granada film, or includes other sources. This film also shows Ringo at his first gig as an official Beatle. Pete Best had only been fired like 4 or 5 days before this gig. Isn't this also the night George was head-butted in the alcove by an angry fan over Pete's firing? And at the conclusion of the song, some fan in the club yelled out "We want Pete!" which can be heard on the tape in the Anthology clip I believe. You can see that Ringo has yet to get his hair into a moptop at this point, and I think he had just shaved his beard at the request of the other 3 Fabs. But his grey shocks of hair on the sides of his head were still visible at this point until he was able to get his moptop style to cover them up.

It seemed like it used to be just a film showing the spectical of the crowd, not realy a recording of the performance.

The film is the best quality I've seen, though. Obviously, someone's got a collection.

And "I'll Follow the Sun" has also been around for many years as part of a tape of Quarrymen recordings. In fact, I bought a two-CD set on Amazon.co.uk last year.

Just glad everyone got to see the video. It is a great moment in Beatles history since it was Ringo's debut as a Beatle, and the quality is so good. Makes you wish you could have been there to hear them before all the Beatlemania started, and when they were just themselves in their hometown having a blast playing live to all their fans.
