When does the 2013 Major League Baseball season start... Have there been any major player movements over the off season... What sites do MLB fans get their news from... Pitchers and catchers start reporting around Feb. 12. Our Fanfest (S.F. Giants) is Feb. 9, so many of the players will be in the Bay Area for that. I get my news from www.MLB.com and www.MLBtraderumors.com.

For me the new season starts April 1, when the Yankees play the Boston Red Sox.
Best off season news;
Derek Jeter is currently back on the field shagging ground balls at the Yankee spring training facility in Tampa, Fla. and his ankle is doing just fine. He should be ready openng day. Mariano Rivera is back to be our closer for at least one more season in his legendary career. A-Rod is out for the first half of the season, and now due to new drug charges, mayb we can get rid of him for good. Yankees may try to use charges to get out of paying him the $100 million he is owed for 6 more seasons. Most Yankee fans want him gone for good. Permanently. Me too. Takers anyone.
Hardest new adjustment to make; Seeing Kevin Yukoulis in a Yankee uniform. But then again, a lot of Boston players come to New York and have their careers rejuvinated - 1) Babe Ruth, 2) Roger Clemens, 3) Wayne Boggs, 4) Johnny Damon.

Maybe I have a short memory, but he didn't get his career rejuvenated in New York, did he?

Maybe I have a short memory, but he didn't get his career rejuvenated in New York, did he? Well, he signed a 4 year $52 million contract with the Yankees after the Red Sox only offered him a three year deal for considerably less money. It was the most money he made in his career and he helped the Yankees win the WS in 2009. So rejunivenated in the sense he was finally being paid a superstar salary, and he deserved it.

Well, I'll speak for San Francisco. It will feel like winter just about anytime you get here. (Huge exaggeration, but there is that saying about the coldest winter being the summer in San Francisco.) We're not beachy sunny Los Angeles. But we have a mild climate pretty much year round. Opening of the MLB season is around the end of March and the entire baseball season (Spring, Summer, Early Autumn) is great weather here. You will run into heat and humidity in Florida and other locations in the Southeast and some in the Midwest. Arizona will be hot as hell in the summer. In other words, no winter weather here during baseball season.

The wife and I got DirecTV last year so we would have the NFL Sunday Ticket (or whatever it is called). This year, when it was time for baseball season, I told her I was going to order the Extra Inning package. It's $200 or so, but about 6 weeks into the season, I'm quite enjoying it.
However, my plan was--and can still come to be--to watch each time play a few games in its home park. It was going to be my version of making the trip to all the parks in a year, except I wasn't going to leave my basement. I've become hooked on watching the Twins' games (been a Twins fan since 1966), and I am seeing a lot of the ball parks that way. Still, I planned on seeing more teams than just who was playing them! Last year, when the play-offs started, I hadn't seen half the teams play at all, and this year, I intend to be more in tune with the teams come September.
I did have a great afternoon a couple of weeks ago. One of my favorite people on the planet came over to see his Dodgers (and his devotion to them goes back to the 50's) play the Brewers. I invited him to hear Vin Scully do a game again. Me, I'm not a Scully fan--the banal bores me, and he's the master of it--but it was wonderful to watch a game with him. I think we're going to travel to see the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (AA team in the Royals organization) this summer; I've already been to one Naturals game, and hope to see a few more. It's a little over an hour away, an easy drive on the interstate.

It's all the games except your home team(s) and it goes to spring training, so you have access during the winter to all of last year's games. It's also, I think, cheaper. They charge extra for the playoffs, but the fee was small ($5) last year, and for this Giants fan, it was an easy $5.

And did I tell you I was there for that game when Mitch Williams gave up the hit to Will Clark? We had seats right behind first base and I remember Will throwing up his arms when I got to first base. (Look up the film.) We also had tickets for the World Series that year, which we went to. You know what happened there.

Is that an on-line service?
I'm not absolutely thrilled with Extra Innings because of what you mentioned--the blackout of home games. So far, I've only been affected by those of the St. Louis Cardinals, even though both Kansas City and Arlington are closer to me. I could understand it if the games in St. Louis were blocked, but not sure how it hurts to show those on the road. The theory may be that I have another avenue for those games on a Fox network, but I don't--I'm in the Fox Sports Southwest market, which is the Rangers. I'm lucky in that I'm not a big Cardinal fan, but still, I'd like to see them SOMETIME.
