Just heard the sad news that Tony Sheridan passed away today. A very important person in the Beatles early history, his participation in their story is of great value and we all owe him a round of deep hearted thanks. Rest in peace, Tony.

That's sad to hear. Wonder if Paul and Ringo will attend the funeral. It's probably one of those "Don't want a Beatle showing up and taking the attention ...". I've never heard much about how close they were. I'm only assuming Ringo even met him.

This may have merited a post under the Beatle's section. I skipped clicking in a few times thinking it was just some discussion I wasn't that interested in. And it's funny, this isn't getting any press at all. I wouldn't had known if I hadn't read it here.

RIP Tony....... Tony Sheridan: 1940 - 2013 A personal message from Paul on the recent passing of the musician Tony Sheridan: "Tony was a good guy who we knew and worked with from the early days in Hamburg. We regularly watched his late night performances and admired his style. He will be missed."

There's a great section in the terrific book BLACK MONK TIME about Tony Sheridan (though he is never specifically mentioned by name) but there is this somewhat crazy guy in the club in Hamburg they are playing at and the group is told "he once sang with the Beatles". The drummer is also getting "uppers" from the same waitress who supplied the Beatles in their early days.
As to Tony Sheridan, I enjoy the Beatles recordings with him. Historical recordings for sure, but also enjoyable.

I love three songs from that era: "My Bonnie" with Tony on lead vocal, "Ain't She Sweet" with our John on lead vocal and the truly magnificent "Cry For A Shadow."
