The Beatles - The Black Album is out on Amazon. It's a Japanese import, no doubt legal in Russia. It's outtakes from the Get Back sessions.

The CDs on Amazon, they have long titles "The Beatles - The Acoustic White Album KINFAUNS - Audio Cd MLPS [Mini Long Play Sleeve] Japanese Mini-LP Replica Audio CD OBI"
I know we are supposed to stay away from pointing to purchases or downloads but this is on Amazon.
They look like the may be needle drops of old bootleg lps. I think that's what mini-lp may mean.

My recollection is the Black Album was loaded with complete nagra takes, but with no attempts to remaster. I'm actually pretty surprised no one has attempted that yet to my knowledge.

So I got the Black Album CD package. You're right about the Nagra Takes. Soundwise it's not that great. But the package is pretty nice. Two posters, UBI, Japanese liners. If you don't mind the album sounds bassy and in mono, it's ok. I'd forgotten how bad the Black Album was.

Pretty much anyone can now find and download the complete nagra sessions in FLAC at a far superior sound quality, and with a little modern digital effect make them sound presentable. I'm surprised someone went to all that trouble to repackage without trying to clean it up. And I don't want to hear anyone say not to tinker with the original mix. It's the bloody Black Album - shut up!

I ordered the Kinfauns Acoustic White Album. It a little hard to listen through straight through. I have much of it aready. It lists it sources as Anthology 3, The 1968 Demos from Genuine Pig, Unsurpassed Demos from Yellow Dog and the Lost Lennon Tapes No 9.
I borrowed money against my retirement for some dental work so I may pick up some more of these with the little extra I got out.
Oh yeah, the poster, if you can call it that, has a few pictures on one side and all the lyrics (in Japanese)on the other.

I had and lost the CD of Unsurpassed Demos, but since have obtained several "clones". One thing for sure, the source tape on Anthology is far superior and at the very least would love to hear first generation copies of Circles, Sour Milk Sea, Child of Nature and Band on the Run ...okay...made up the last one.

The Kinfaus tape has never been one of my favorites. Maybe first gen. copies of all of them would make the difference.

The original Black Album was a 3LP set, in a gatefold sleeve. The left sleeve contained LPs 1 and 2, the right sleeve LP3 and the poster.
LP1 was a straight copy of an earlier boot, Sweet Apple Trax Vol I. LP2 was ditto Vol II. LP3 was a rip of another boot, Twickenham Jams. The poster contained the complete text of the Get Back book, included with the Let It Be box: the box went out of print fast, so having the text via the Black Album was a find for many.
It is a famous boot, so it's neat to have it. However, the sound quality is not too flash - but that is typical of its time. What IS good about it is that it contains some famous versions of Get Back-era songs (eg, record mirror version of Let It Be, Suzy Parker/Suzy's Parlor, a good Watching Rainbows, a great No Pakistanis, etc etc).
I ripped my Alack album to CD some years ago, and it gets an occasional nostalgic spin from me. This, and the two Glyn Johns Get Back albums, get more plays than the "real" Let It Be album, which I consider to be a blot on the Fabs' reputation.
The Black Album is a nice occasional listen, so go for it if you get the chance.

My record place had it for $50 (US) back in the late70s, but I already had (and still do) the four discs of Sweet Apple Trax I and II (one of the better "early Beatleg" moments for me). Just a side note- at the same time my record store had an EP type of disc for Mary Jane, but he refused to preview it for me.

I'd take the "nice" off of "occasional listen." "Nice" is giving it too much credit. I will say again the packaging on that Black Album CD package is pretty nice, if smaller than the original vinyl.
