Nice interview in my local paper with Chas Hodges (Chas & Dave) who was present at Eric Clapton's wedding... "I was at Eric Clapton's wedding when I joined the Beatles" Chas laughs. "Me and the missus got invited an there was a marquee set up in the grounds with a stage, amps and drum kit in case anyone felt like getting up and having a jam. "Anyway, this little kid started bashing the drums and called over to me saying "C'mon Chas, sing Gertcha for us". So I go up with the mic and started singing some rock and roll stuff. I looked up and there was Ringo sitting there smiling at me. The next thing I knew Paul was plugging in his bass and George slipping a guitar over his head. And there's me in the middle thinking "I'm the fourth flippin' Beatle here!" linkGreat article, never heard that story before but I knew that the Threetles got up and performed a rendition of Sgt Pepper and some others.

I remember reading about the "reunion" in Circus magazine. There are a couple of photos of the Threetles posing with Lonnie Donnegan, but no photos of the jam, though they surely exist. From other things I have read, the impromtu jam was for drunken ears only. If it happened now it would already be on Youtube.

Cool story. That Colne Rhythm and Blues Festival looks like a great event.

Yes, I remember seeing a picture somewhere (People magazine?) showing Paul playing the piano. The commentary said they sang standards like "She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain". I don't remember hearing about Sgt. Pepper.

I don't remember hearing about Sgt. Pepper. You are mistaking Clapton's wedding celebration, with Ringo's actual marriage to Barbara Bach, which was covered exclusively by LIFE magazine with one big Threetle and wives photo. The saddest thing besides the obvious absence of John is that he surely would have been there.

You are mistaking Clapton's wedding celebration, with Ringo's actual marriage to Barbara Bach, which was covered exclusively by LIFE magazine with one big Threetle and wives photo. The saddest thing besides the obvious absence of John is that he surely would have been there. And both Eric and Pattie agree(for once) that they simply overlooked inviting John to the 1979 wedding. Somehow they got word that John and Yoko would have come if invited but they may have been told that after John's death. John was waiting for something big, a hit record maybe, before going back to Britain. It has never been adequately explained, as far as I am concerned, why John never went back to Britain once he got his Green Card. At that point he could have come and gone as he pleased. We know from 1976 through 1979 he made several trips to Japan to see Yoko's family yet in that time, when he could do so legally and without fear of being excluded from the U.S., he never once visited Mimi or his other relatives in Britain. I have always doubted that John would thus have gone there just for Clapton's wedding in 1979. He was waiting for some big reason but what that could have been remains a mystery to me. Our boys at EC's wedding reception! The kid(over Pattie's right shoulder) who was playing drums and asked Chas Hodges to play! JK!
