What a sick bastard:
"Herman promised that he wouldn’t hurt the child but that he might have to be “forceful” with her after giving her some alcohol."
It sucks when good childhood memories prove to be mere sand castles. This guy didn't turn into a pedophile overnight. He was probably doing it in the station's studio like Jerry Sandusky was doing it in the Penn State football facility.
Here's to hoping that Mr. Herman's soon to be cellmates do to him what he wanted to do that fictional child he waited for with his stuffed animal!

I remember Dave Herman from when I lived in the N.Y. area. How sad.

I certainly hope this is untrue. I remember Dave well from WNEW and this would really be a shocker. If true this is indeed sad and sickening. But I think I would wait for further official and prominent newscasts before believing this. Especially New York coverage, since Dave was a longtime NY DJ.

Herman will do the Pete Townsend defense and say he was researching kiddie porn because he deplores it and will say that he is really a hero, he was going to save this girl when her mother exchanged her with him at the airport.
Yes, innocent until proven guilty and we have but one source of info but if indeed the emails and other electronic communications exist and can be authenticated and if he was waiting at the airport with a stuffed animal I wouldn't want to be in his shoes.
It stinks when someone we once enjoyed(I don't know of him but you New Yorkers do) turns out to be a monster. Phil Spector comes to mind and child molesters are about as bad as murderers. The impact on the victim child never goes away and in fact can turn that child into a predator later on.

I know we live in a tabloid hungry society that's gone to hell, But sheesh - let's at least be sure first before labeling the man a sick bastard and pre-guessing his line of defense!

Dave Herman was one of my favorite DJs when I moved to the NYC area in the early 80s. I hope it is not true...but sounds damaging.

I know we live in a tabloid hungry society that's gone to hell, But sheesh - let's at least be sure first before labeling the man a sick bastard and pre-guessing his line of defense! He has been arrested. There was probable cause to do that. This isn't just a tabloid headline with no action taken by law enforcement. The line of defense I outlined is what caught pedophiles assert. They are researching child porn because they detest it, their intent was to save the child, not harm her, etc. Let's be clear that sports, Hollywood, and media stars can also do very bad things despite our culture's worship of them.

JSD's right about the line of defense used by pedophiles.
What a sick story. My stomach is turning.

Yes, I know that JSD is right about the line of defense that a good many of these child predators use. What I meant to convey was, let's see first if he is guilty first, period -
-- but I just saw the front page of the NEW YORK POST, which features the headline of "HERMAN MONSTER", so now I am more of the feeling that this is a true story. (Then again, the NY POST is notorious for being the paper to headline "THE BEATLES ARE BACK!!" for their bogus 1979 reunion that never was...) .

He has been arrested. There was probable cause to do that. This isn't just a tabloid headline with no action taken by law enforcement. True. Still, an arrest does not always mean guilty. People even get released after spending 20 years in jail for a crime they never committed. We don't want to convict people and be judge, jury, and executioner until proven guilty, do we? But no matter - I'm now becoming more convinced that Dave Herman probably was guilty. Of course. I still don't see what that has to do with just waiting to be sure before condemning. This will be a morbid thought, but imagine if Paul or Ringo had been found guilty of a similar act, or murder?? I've occasionally wondered if I could go back to enjpying their music after such a news item. I hope I never have to find out!

For awhile I was a bit reluctant to listen to Badfinger songs after the suicides of the two main members as I acquaint the act as a final act of desperation and being the easy way out. Later learning about the circumstances that led them to take this step helped me to understand the reasons why, though I'm still bothered by what they did and wished they held on before committing the acts. I can listen to their music now, but am still sadden by their decision.
If what Dave Herman is accused of is true, it will makes the tapes I have of some his interviews hard to listen to in the future. And he's the DJ who introduces Elton John on his live '11-17-70' album, so I'm wondering if future editions of the album will have his intros and outro's edited out. Still very shocked.

I still don't see what that has to do with just waiting to be sure before condemning. That was aimed at all the responses I am reading on the web where his listeners are shocked, can't believe it, are absolutely stunned. Just because a fellow has a nice voice, interviews famous rock stars and is a fixture from our youth doesn't make him immune from being a monster in his private life. To me it is yet another example of how we think we know these celebrities but we really don't.
