Why, why, why, why do these pundits(starting with Yoko Ono) speculate that John would have made Hip Hop music on a regular basis?! I am not saying he wouldn't enjoy listening to it, I am not saying that he wouldn't have admired the artists for doing things there own way , forming their own music empires as after all, The Beatles were the first to try that ultimately with success(Apple today is quite a profitable company), and I am not saying he wouldn't love their defiant attitudes and rebellious ways. I think John Lennon would have loved all of that about Hip Hop but I also think John had the inherent good sense to stick with what he was great at: Rock and Roll! What older white artist has successfully incorporated Hip Hop regularly into his or her sound? Springsteen fused it about as well as a Rocker can on his recent song "Rocky Ground" but that was one time only. Don't say Madonna as none of that is real Hip Hop with any creds with young people, of all races. When R.E.M. were at their height they made the now embarrassing "Radio Song" featuring rapper KRS-One with lines that now sound as lame as Will Smith when he rapped before thankfully going into acting. My speculation (and that's all it is) is that John would go back to his Rock and Roll roots and maybe the Grunge sound may have inspired him just as it gave Neil Young yet another musical life. I am not even sure about that as John always liked that full Phil Spector kind of Rock and Roll sound POB notwithstanding. Sadly we'll never know but I do know John revered the African American artists he listened to as a youth and he was so deferential when covering the old Rock and Roll songs as a Beatle yet did them proud because of that respect. John was flippant about everything but the music. I cannot see him go into a genre like Hip Hop, other than for a one-off thing like Springsteen, knowing that he was too old and from a different background to do it justice. As to the drawing of John for today, I liked that as found in Steve's article! Maybe he would be bald but maybe not. Nothing John could have done would be as silly as Paul who today has darker hair than he did at 21!

I wonder if John would have applied for U.S.citizenship. Or would he have gone back to England at some point. Or become a "mid-atlantic" like Paul spending a lot of time in the UK and NY.

I only hope he would have grown out of that appalling political naivete.

I only hope he would have grown out of that appalling political naivete. I don't think he would have progressed past the "Sometime in New York City" political, but would still have been very much an activist with Yoko.

I know that Yoko knew John well, but there is no way I believe John would ever have gone into Hip Hop. Yet for some reason I do think he would have championed it. I've always thought John would have been the one Bald Beatle. He was thinning quite a bit even at 40. But these days bald is in (don't ask me why; as a 50+ man with a full head of hair today, it seems wasted!).

Nothing John could have done would be as silly as Paul who today has darker hair than he did at 21! I must say I think Paul is looking pretty good lately. I'm not sure if his hair is all truly his own real hair, though. He definitely had a bald spot around 2005, as I saw it plainly when he played Madison Square Garden. But it's gone now. As to his hair being darker now than at 21 - I know what you're driving at, but his hair was much darker when he was younger, and it was never light brown!

Yeah, Paul's hair used to be black. Now it's light brown. Attachments:

. . . He definitely had a bald spot around 2005, as I saw it plainly when he played Madison Square Garden. But it's gone now. . . It's still there.

He has a thin spot. When the light hits it just right, you see a little scalp. That's exactly the kind of baldness that Rogaine can help.

Yeah, that would be a cool look for a 73 year old guy.
