I would have liked to have read later Mick's comments about Ringo's drumming. And I read that Joe Walsh pushed Ringo on Old Wave to do all of the drumming and hit the drums harder! Ringo has been doing almost all of his own drumming on his records since OW. Get him with some superstars though and it is like he calls in his security blanket. I don't even like how Keltner is all over Ringo in the photo.

In regards to playing live, between Ringo always having a second drummer and George almost always strumming an acoustic, we rarely got to see dem boys RAWK (Yes, I know we have George's Japan tour and the Carl Perkins show and that one-off with Deep Purple and other isolated shows). Before we get the apologists, it's not about Ringo doing Keith Moon drum solos or George shredding. It's about being a rocker and letting it all out and having fun. I would have liked to have seen George play throughout the Prince's Trust or step out in front for a lead at Dylan's 30th Anniversary Concert or even the Beatles induction in the RRHF. It's a shame George never played at Clapton's Crossroads concerts. It would have been fun to see him even just play slide on old blues or country songs. Willie Nelson played and he's not shredder. So did Keef and he's not a shredder. My gosh, even James Taylor played!

Your guitar comments bring up a subject that almost requires it's own thread: accompanying guitarist: Not a strummer or a shredder, but combines basic rhythms with riffs, arpeggio or key signature notes of a song. Examples are various, but think of Keifer, Paul Simon, George on select songs (including the Carl Perkins special), James Taylor and Pete Townshend (when not shredding).
