Has anyone ever tried to calculate how many different times Lennon & McCartney hooked up socially or for business reasons after Lennon quit the band in September 1969?
...maybe a dozen or so?

I would guess about 10 not counting John throwing a rock through Paul's window.

Personally I haven't done so but there is a great book called The Beatles:After the Breakup(1970-2000). It details every little thing these guys did after the Beatles. Since a meeting between J & P would be big news it will be in there.

Since a meeting between J & P would be big news it will be in there. That is Keith Badman's book and it is awesome. He is due for a revised version to include George's death, etc. I would guess that the Dakota visits post Oct. 9, 1975 cannot be totally confirmed but there weren't many. I would say a dozen John and Paul hook-ups post Sept. 1969 would be even high. The most were in the May Pang years

Lennon dined with McCartney in NYC '71 (Dick Cavett)
Lennon invited Paul to One to One-Paul declined.
Grammies March '74 back stage- no photo ops. around this same time,Toot-n-Snore "session", Paul Ringo and John together at the Hollywood house (May's photos)
75-Lennon was going to join Paul in New Orleans-but it didn't happen.
Same year he was supposed to join the other three at the Plaza in NYC (Band dissolving) but never showed up
John "snuck" into Paul show at the Garden in 76-is this in Badman's book?
Paul, Linda at the Dakota watching SNL circa 1977
Paul showed up unannounced in 79-John scolded him-"not kids any more".
Paul tried to reach him during Double Fantasy sessions-Yoko blocked that kick (Jack Douglas)

Paul tried to reach him during Double Fantasy sessions-Yoko blocked that kick (Jack Douglas) That's a good list, probably covering most of the meetings we'll ever hear of. From the Playboy Interview, however, I got the impression that Paul didn't show up just one time, that what John was referring to was the culmination of a series of visits? (Also does everyone think John actually scolded him? Or was that John's take on it for publication in 1980? Everyone exaggerates, and John was prone to it. Just a thought.) Didn't Paul also visit in 1976, during the break in the WOA tour when Jimmy was nursing the injury? Also, related to the Japan bust. Had Paul visited just prior to their trip, allegedly setting Yoko off about the hotel room in Japan? Not that I believe that story or anything...

The more i read these stories the more i think the only thing standing in the way of Paul and John resuming some kind of relationship was Yoko....If Paul was a confessional type i believe he could/would vindicate that view......

Also, in the Playboy interview didn't John put down Mick Jagger because wanted to see him and John said he didn't want a part of it. I remember John using the term "rock and roll creeps" to refer to Mick.

There was also supposedly a meeting at the Haskell Opera House just a bit North from where I live. This would have been around the time of John's gigs in Toronto. This Opera house has one unique distinction; the audience sits in the United States and the stage is technically in Canada. For this reason, as the story goes, John & Paul could meet and not be in legal jeopardy due to Lennon's drug bust. They still tell this story during the tours, though I am unaware of any other documentation on the subject...

As much as Yoko now tries to claim that John was the possessive one (which he probably was) there are numerous instances of Yoko being the one keeping John away from others. Pete Shotton (John's old childhood chum) talks about it in his book.

I remember John using the term "rock and roll creeps" to refer to Mick. Which pretty much helps to prove that John just simply wasn't interested in hanging out with ANYONE, basically. There are guys like this, you know - they're into the woman, and forget the boys. My friend and I have a mutual pal who got married last year and he NEVER desires to come 'round anymore. He's just content with the family life and wife (don't ask me how; I could never be tied just to the wife, but some guys like it that way). I believe John was such a person, and it wasn't about him "dying to see Paul put mean old Yoko kept screwing it up". Some people just can't take the fact that John grew apart from Paul. Sure, when the woman is gone - either there is a divorce or separation, THEN the man comes back into the fold, much like John did in 1974 in LA. I'm sure that if my friend's marriage collapsed, or something, he'd suddenly be back at the doorstep.
