This morning on the weekly Q104 radio program out of New York City; "Breakfast With The Beatles" we heard John dash thru 'Whatever Gets You Through The Night' and the song by "my other fiance Paul"; 'I Saw Her Standing There' with Elton John recorded in 1974 at Madison Square Garden. Then DJ Ken Dashow put on Elton John's tribute to John; the song "Empty Garden". I had not heard that song and I lost it lying there in bed this morning. Ken came back on the radio afterwards, and was crying himself in the studio, and said "Maybe I shouldn't have played that today." It took him a few moments to compose himself on the air. A listener texted in that "She woke up on Dec. 9, 1980 and discovered her youth was gone forever."
The dream was over.
Miss you John.
RIP to you and George.

A very sad day. Since 1980, I don't even think about Christmas until this day has come and gone.
On April 17, 1982, Elton John performed "Empty Garden" on Saturday Night Live and it was very, very powerful. I couldn't find it on YouTube but there are some sites that show SNL performances and that is one to track down.

Most people on this board know this story but it doesn't hurt to post it one more time this week along with the video. Maybe some new members here are not aware of it;
A message to Paul through a song: My Old Friend....
The most interesting incident with respect to McCartney's connection to Lennon in the spirit world occurred just after John Lennon's death, early in 1981.
In 1981, just after John Lennon died, Paul and wife Linda invited Carl to stay with them in Montserrat. Paul wanted Carl's help recording a song called Get It for his new album, Tug of War. Carl spent eight days with them, and the remaining ex-Beatles George Harrison and Ringo Starr had been there to help out as well. It was a great time between old friends who had shared such a legendary musical past.
The night before he left, a song came to Carl that summed up his warm feelings about the visit, and he couldn't get it out of his mind. It was so strong that Carl didn't even write it down, which he said was strange for him. He usually always wrote his songs down immediately.
In the morning, Carl Perkins sang the song, which he named My Old Friend, for Linda and Paul, saying it was his gift for having him as a guest. Half way through the song, after singing "if we never meet again this side of life, in a little while, over yonder, where there's peace and quiet, my old friend, won't you think about me every now and then?" tears streamed down Paul's face and he stood up and stepped outside.
Not knowing what was the matter, Carl stopped, a bit shaken. Didn't Paul like the song? Linda warmly put her arms around Carl, and thanked him. She said the song was getting Paul to finally connect with his grief over John Lennon's death. Linda explained that the last time Paul talked to John, he had said the same line to Paul: "think about me every now and then, my old friend."
Carl and Linda were now convinced that the song had been channeled from John Lennon's spirit, as a gift MORE INCREDIBLE: Carl told this story while being filmed in 1997 for what would later become part of the My Old Friend DVD. When he was finished telling the story, he sang the refrain. Just then his wife buzzed in on the intercom, and said, "Carl, Paul McCartney just called." Carl was so stunned at the coincidence he turned to the camera, speechless, and said "you tell me this boy has not got a connection to the spirit world!"
Carl Perkins coincidentally died exactly one year to the day later, after suffering two strokes. If he had not been inspired to do a video in 1997 on his musical career, and recounted this experience, we would never have known the story.
The video below contains the incidents. Including Paul calling Carl in his studio at the instant he was discussing Lennon.

You can't tell me Julian did not write this song above as a tribute to his father.
Happy 74th Birthday John. Always missed. Never forgotten. The "What If's" are overwhelming; especially on this day every year.
Thanks for the music and the memories.

Someone on Facebook today posted birthday greetings to John (whicd appeared very genuine); along with the infamous photo of him autographing his album for his killer just hours before his death. Sometimes people just amaze me with either their sheer stupidity or lack of taste....... That is just sick.

Thought of John all day yesterday...and how cool it would be to have him still with us! I think he would have been a most interesting senior citizen! Miss you, John!

Heard "Happy X-Mas (War Is Over)" on the radio this morning and realized what day it was. Still stirs strong emotions even all these years later.
