Here is a British ITV special on The History of The Cavern Club in Liverpool. Footage of The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Herman's Hermits and even The Kinks playing there. Interviews with Pete Best, Alistair Taylor, Freda Kelly, and fans from the Cavern Beatle days. Very well done history of the Club that spawned The Beatles.

Good find Mr Tenor A good doco, i think it's the first real look i've had of the car park that replaced the original Cavern. The new Cavern Club, i've been to that one, watched a band there , had an Ale, walked down Mathew Street to where NEMS was. Great stuff...

I've been to the new Cavern when I was in Liverpool in the late 80's. Have to agree with many of the interviewers who were at a loss why the city of Liverpool tore down the original club in the first place. For a stupid underground rail line that was never even completed? Go figure.. When I was there I also saw Mendips, Strawberry Field, the Church where John met Paul, Paul's boyhood home, the Magical Mystery Tour Bus used in the film, Eleanor Rigby's grave as well as Brian Epstein's grave. Thanks for the tenor remark, but I am a bass. If I had been a tenor, I never would have gone into opera singing. Too much pressure being a tenor!!

No worries Mr Tenor, On my trip i also saw Mendips, Strawberry Field, the Church where John met Paul, Paul's boyhood home on board the Magical Mystery Tour Bus, however i figured it was just a replica bus. We saw the cemetery where the grave of Eleanor Rigby is located but we didn't go in and have a look. I also saw the Penny Lane roundabout, the bank , the barbers shop and a couple of other relevant sites in Penny Lane. I saw both of Ringo's boyhood homes, the pub on the cover of Sentimental Journey and George's home in Arnold Grove. The tour finished at Mathew street and then the tour operator tried to convince everyone to pay for a walking tour and he would show us all the other locations in the near vicinity. That's when i walked to the Nems store location myself.

Only 6 six years since the last post, it isn't that I am a slow reader/thinker, it's just that I am a noob! Strictly speaking, the old Cavern Club wasn't completely demolished. At the very least, the emergency exit from the rebuilt Cavern is where the original entrance was. I have a learning disabled brother-in-law who is as big a fan of The Beatles as I am. So, he and I have now had 3 Beatles weekends (which reminds me, must organise a fourth!). Been on the MMT bus a couple of times and I've driven around the city visiting various sites. The last time we went, in 2015, we saw The Cavern Beatles play at the Cavern, albeit not on the replica stage. Better still, we went up for the 50th anniversary of John meeting Paul. We paid our respects at St Peter's Church Hall, where Colin Hanton's drums were setup on the stage, and then in the evening we saw The Quarrymen play at the Cavern. This was the second time we had seen them. The first was on our first visit in 2001. We'd been on the MMT bus as as we were about to disembark, Eddie, the tour guide, mentioned that the Quarrymen were playing that evening. Even better was that they would be at The New Clubmoor Hall - the location for McCartney's first gig with the band. If anyone is interested, I created a booklet for my bro-in-law, which I subsequently uploaded to the net. Scroll down for a pic or two of the band. on the way down the page, you'll even see a photo of a younger me. All the gory details are here <== the word here is a link but it doesn't show as a different colourAnd all I can say is thank goodness for digital cameras. It would have cost me a fortune taking so many pictures on film. Attachments:
