The symmetry is beautiful: The Beatles first played on Ed Sullivan on Sunday, February 9, 1964 and the 50th anniversary of that will be a Sunday, February 9, 2014!
How do we organize the parties we will undoubtedly host as Beatles' fanatics, each and every one of us?
First, the party must center around whatever broadcasts will be aired that night, like that CBS special that sayne is going to that will be filmed earlier but broadcast February 9th. Second, I think the party must center around playing the DVD of the Beatles' 1964 Sullivan performances, maybe throw in 1965's too.
But help me make this be a hip party that will appeal to the hip and beautiful! Let us avoid the party of all Beatles geeks sitting around in their too small Beatles tee-shirts arguing John vs. Paul or whatever we all normally fight about. Let's assume hot babes(for us men) and hot studs(for our female posters) will attend and we must make the party cool and fun for Beatles fans and non-fans alike.
Help with what we watch on either TV or DVD and in what order. Do we have Beatles games like trivia? What food is served? What to drink?
Do we play the entire Sullivan shows from 1964 with commercials and the other performers or do we just play The Beatles' music spots?
Live entertainment meaning open guitars and mics for those so inclined? Karaoke? That Beatles video game?
Do we make party mix audio CDs or digital where we play boring, pre-Beatles' arrival music to build excitement, to put things in the proper context of why American kids fell in love with Beatles overnight?
Do we spike the tea/punch with LSD? Oh never mind, that is the SPLHCB 50th Anniversary party!
This Thread will allow each to imagine that he or she is an "Event's Coordinator" whose job is to plan the perfect Beatles 50th Anniversary To America party! See, we can use our own good ideas and not have to then pay for such!

We will be having a party for sure, but thought to have it on the 8th to celebrate both dates - the arrival and the Ed Sullivan show. We will have DVDs on the tv, Beatles music (1963/4 only! ) on the sound system, and people will be encouraged to wear either Beatle shirts/jackets or retro outfits. Not sure about the food - maybe we'll serve cornflakes, ham sarnies, and jelly beans/babies. People will be able to play Beatles monopoly or Trivial Pursuit.
In June 1987 we had an "It was twenty years ago today" party and it was a lot of fun - I'm looking forward to another fun Beatle celebration!

Seriously, I know it's not realistic for everyone here, but it would be ultra-cool -- and a chance for us to meet in person.

And with the 8th being Saturday, you have Sunday to recover! Your party sounds great cosmo! 1964 is a hard year to dress for. The whole 1950's is like Happy Days and 1967 is Flower Power. But that is a good idea, retro outfits! I agree tha music should be just everything up to 1964 as Americans got hit with two years of Beatles music all at once! Maybe for food find some old fashioned, unhealthy "TV Dinners." Those use to be treats in the early 1960's.

I'm a bit jealous that some of you have fellow Beatles fans close by that you could assemble with. There are a few folks here that I know that like the music, but none I'd think would be interested in gathering for a watch party or celebration of the day they appeared on Sullivan.

Don't feel alone Joey, other than Rock and Roll USPS Mailman Mike and the Logansport High School(LHS) Varsity Baseball Head Coach and the LHS Dean of Students*(Two old Jocks who are dedicated Beatles fans and neither man fits the stereotypes of Jocks or Beatles fans even though they are both!), Logansport does not offer me many hardcore Beatles fans to invite. That's why I must also invite hot young babes so I must walk a fine line of catering to hardcore Beatles fans yet make The Beatles fun and vital to young women who may know little about them. The 1964 Beatles are dressed sharply and well groomed, I think young women will like that. My Beatle fan guest are all long-time married men so it is more important than ever that I have hot young babes as guests since these guys, like many of us, have been cut amazing slack by spouses when it comes to Beatles events! In other words, wives say: "Oh, it is a Beatles' themed party? Why don't you go on your own or call your Beatles' buddy! I am fine with that, really!" I want my party a celebration of The Beatles 50th Anniversary of Conquering America but it is still a party and I want to make many memorable new memories that all my guests, male and female, will associate with The Beatles' music! *I amazingly ran into these two guys at the July 2013 Macca Indy concert in the huge venue of Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the only Logansport people I was to see.

I have decided to hire strippers for my party dressed like 1964 "Go Go Dancers!" That ought to get the party rocking but I won't have the women appear until the CBS Special is over and we have then played the DVD of The Beatles on Ed Sullivan. I suspect that if the strippers start first the whole Beatles theme of the party flies out the window!

Google "Beatles 50th anniversary party" in your hometown to see if there are celebrations you can join.

Google "Beatles 50th anniversary party" in your hometown to see if there are celebrations you can join. Good suggestion, scousette! Of course, The Board disclaims any liability to Members here who go to non-Board endorsed parties! My party, with the strippers, is not endorsed by the Board.

JSD, I am sure that the other members of the board join me in hoping that you'll post the pictures from your Beatles themed stripper party! Nature has intervened in my life to place me on the sofa in my tv room for a bit, so our party never got properly organized. However, I am in excellent viewing position for anything Beatles related on tv this weekend! And I will enjoy it all! Happy Anniversary, Beatle People!!!

JSD, I am sure that the other members of the board join me in hoping that you'll post the pictures from your Beatles themed stripper party! LOL, nice try cosmo but what happens in Logansport, Indiana stays in Logansport, Indiana! I have had to assure my guests, local educators, politicians, a Judge, a cop or two(like protection money), members of the local bar and some clergy that no cameras are allowed! Sorry to hear that but you will be nice and comfy in your TV room and you can control what you watch! I am starting to think I invited way too many non-Beatle people and I say that because when I recite that I will first play Albert and David Maysles' The Beatles: The First U.S. Visit DVD, we will then watch the CBS Beatles Special, and finally I will play the entire Ed Sullivan Beatles DVD, they impatiently want to know the exact time the strippers are coming! I am getting this bad vibe that my guests are coming when the strippers are to arrive! But very few would RSVP without confirmation of the strippers.
