This might be a weird question. And I admit Im a weird f##k. But John Lennon wrote all those love songs. Did he write any of them about Cynthia?

LOL, I don't know that answer but I felt that John always hated "It's Only Love"(and he's said that he hates it) because he thought people would think it was about Cynthia!
I'd say if John did it was only his very earliest songs so I'm inclined to say no. His writings for her was probably limited to those long, wild, often profane letters he wrote her early on!

Good question. In the lengthy interviews he did on the composition of the songs--HIT PARADER in '72 and PLAYBOY in '80--he was already with Yoko, and I'd say disinclined to mention Cynthia or her impact/influence on him. So she may have been who he was thinking of with "Please Please Me" or "Thank You Girl," something like that. But I don't know that he ever came out and said it--if he did, I don't remember seeing it.

You could say "Norweigan Wood" was written to Cynthia telling her about his affairs he was having. You could say in the song "Getting Better" that the line "I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved" might have been about Cynthia. Was "Jealous Guy" about Cynthia or Yoko?. Interesting that John's possible references to Cynthia were primarily negative in his songs. That was a forced marraige not based on true loving emotions.

Was "Jealous Guy" about Cynthia or Yoko?. . Although the melody was written in India as "Child Of Nature" , I believe the updated "Jealous Guy" lyrics probably pertained to Yoko in some way.

I recall John adding: "Terrible lyric" as a reason for his hating that song of his. And while I personally like the song myself, the lyrics are kind of weak in a "June/Moon" superficial way.

I don't know, did he really love Cyn or was he trapped by her getting pregnant ?
He never wrote about Cynthia openly where as he did write about Yoko openly, Yoko seemed to suit his bent mindset !

I've seen some of the copies of letters John wrote Cynthia from Hamburg and theres "LOVE LOVE LOVE!!" scribbled all over every page. He seemed to have genuine -- and even manic -- romantic feelings toward Cynthia in the early years.
But something seemed to cool after the birth of Julian. Or maybe it was the advent of Beatlemania and the unlimited access to chicks.
I guess I always just wondered what Cynthia thought. Having a husband pouring out all these unabashed love songs. Was he writing about her? Was she the inspiration? Its hard not to imagine her taking them personally at least on some levels
John would later dismiss the songs as cranked out for "the meat market." But the passion of his singing sure sounds pretty real.

I wonder how many Beatles love songs can be attributed ro specific women. I cant remember Cynthia ever specifically claiming one.
"Here There Everywhere" is generally attributed to Jane Asher.
"Norwegian Wood" is generally attributed to the reporter who did the "More popular than Jesus" interview.
Lennon attributed "Girl" to his romanticized ideal of The One who " later turned out to be Yoko."
Paul attributed "Hey Jude" to Julian, and by proxy Cynthia.
This has been disputed by some on this board, but Patti says George told her specifically that "Something" was inspired by her.
And, of course, "Dear Yoko" was inspired by Brian Epstein (kidding kidding).

Pertaining to the "Getting Better Lyrics", John says in a 1980 Playboy Interview; "Hitting females is something I'm always ashamed of and still can't talk about. I'll have to be a lot older before I can face that in public, about how I treated women as a youngster."

And it was a forced marriage in that John at least was too young to marry, it wasn't a good time in his life to make that commitment. But all signs seem to indicate he was genuinely in love with her, even if he became resentful of having to play husband and father-albeit badly- at that point.

Whenever I hear John singing "Mr Postman" I always think of his love letters to Cynthia with all these doodles on the envelope, like: "Mr Postman dont be slow, Cynthia's waiting so go man go !!"

"Baby's in Black" is supposedly about Astrid.
"Hide Your Love Away" is supposedly about Epstein.
"Doctor Robert" is supposedly about Robert Frazier who was their speed connection (as well as the NY doc that shot up the Warhol crowd).
"Help"was supposedly partially written about Pete Shotton ("I do appreciate you being round").
"How Do You Sleep" is supposedly about McCartney (kidding).

Great question. Unfortunately for Cyn, I think it was very true when John sang, "I'm in love for the first time" in 1969.

Oh man Snookeroooooi. We're on the same wavelength tonight. I often thought what a slap in the face that line must have been for Cynthia. Beatles fans can criticize Cynthia for many things. But I dont think anyone would dispute that she was madly in love with John. Like most of us.
