How sad that on a night honoring the Beatles Pete Seeger has passed away at age 94. He had a long and incredible musical life. He was a crusader for everything progressive. RIP.

I saw Pete Seeger last year when he played a gig with my girlfriend's choir. As for his passing -- living all the way to age 94, remaining alert and reasonable healthy, and dying of natural causes is something we can all only hope for. Nothing sad there, IMO .

RIP old Pete! My favorite story of Seeger is where he wasn't so progressive and went nuts at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival when Dylan and his band plugged in the electric guitars. Seeger, by eyewitness accounts and as told in a great Dylan DVD showing Dylan's appearances at the various annual Newport Folk Festivals, grabbed an axe and tried to cut the electric cables that could have caused his electrocution! He was restrained! He later called Dylan's electric performance that day , "some of the most destructive music this side of hell."* But with my interest in The Avett Brothers, I can really respect Pete for trying to keep the music real, keep it as close to the people as possible. A banjo, an acoustic guitar, instruments the working man or woman could afford and learn to play. * www.rollingstone.com/music/news/pete-seeger-folk-legend-dead-at-94-20140128
