This Song
Inside Out
Devil's Radio
Note: I decided to run this like a World Cup event--sort of. There are three videos in each group, and only one will move to the knockout round, so it's not exactly like the World Cup, but close enough.
There are 24 videos in this tournament, including five by the Traveling Wilburys and both the videos for "Got My Mind Set On You". I am going to use the long version of "Wilbury Twist." I have tried to separate the videos so nothing is grouped with another from the same album.
Pick your favorite of these. If you're not familiar with all, please take a few minutes to watch the links.
The voting in this round will end a few days after I post the 8th group; I'll announce the last day for all rounds when it is posted. I'll try to post each group every two or three days.
Have fun!

Voted for "Inside Out". Not only is it a Traveling Wilburys video that I can't recall having seen before--kinda exciting for me--but I love that George appears to be having fun in this one (versus "Devil's Radio, where he looks like he is having a root canal:).
Loved "This Song" back in the day but, in spite of its historical significance (i.e., Saturday Night Live, My Sweet Lord suit, still a force on the charts), it does seem kinda dated. Disco George, indeed!

I thought I was going to go with Devil's Radio since I am little too familiar with This Song. Had this just been rating the songs, Devil's would have won. But this video is bad quality, the sound isn't too good either. It's a live version. That doesn't help.
The Wilbury's song wasn't that good. It's not bad but it's not quite up there in great territory. George's part is the weakest part of the song, I'm sorry to say.
I have to go with This Song. I like everything about it. Where do I find the disco version? That sounds like it'd be good too.

Now is as good a time as any for me to put out the request that if anyone finds a better quality link than what I did, please post it, and I'll edit it into the opening note. I hope no one judges the quality of the video by the quality of the online clip I am able to find for each. I remember the one I have for "True Love" isn't very good, either, but we can make it out well enough to pass judgment on it. JcS

Voted for "Inside Out". Not only is it a Traveling Wilburys video that I can't recall having seen before--kinda exciting for me I suspect in the 24 in the tourney, there will be some others you haven't seen. I think of the 24, I'd only seen about half of them when I put this together. JcS

I get it. I would have still picked This Song. There is a lot going on in it. I've always enjoyed watching it.

I get it. Well said. And I frankly don't care how someone chooses which one they want to advance. Me, I probably go 60% visual and 40% song. I mean, if I absolutely hate a song, it's hard for me to enjoy a video. However, if I love a song, but the video does nothing for me, then I'm probably going to vote against it (depending on what it is up against, of course). But I don't put any "rules" or even guidelines on how others should make his/her choice. JcS

"Inside Out" for me. There is a lot of musical pedigree in that video!
I enjoyed the "This Song" video too. IO is just too cool!

I know Jim Keltner is the judge in "This Song" (man, he looks like Phil Spector here). And, I know that Ron Wood is one of the men in drag, but who is the other "lady" with him?

I have looked--probably the same sources you would have available to you--and didn't find anything naming the other guy. JcS

This Song, because it is a good video, and George barely sings on Inside Out.

I love the opportunity to see live George as on the "Devil's Radio" video here and we do need a DVD with an entire professionally filmed 1974 Hari concert and a 1991 Japanese Hari/Clapton concert but I agree that George does not look like he is having fun at all!
I still have the Rolling Stone magazine with the article claiming that George and EC were bringing the tour to the US. The failure of that to materialize was one of my biggest Beatles related disappointments(the first always being what we were robbed of by John's murder!).
Great tourney, Joey! Thanks and let's get some more votes in. I am sharpening my knife for the "Blow Away" video, the worst video ever by a major Rock God!

This Song, because it is a good video, and George barely sings on Inside Out. That is true but when George does get to sing it is very 1960's, very Byrds-ish. It is my favorite part of the song.

It is one of my favorite Wilbury songs, and you are absolutely spot on with his brief vocal turn. But- I had to pick one.

Video-wise, I am also prejudiced because "Inside Out" is filmed so beautifully, it looks HD even if it is not while "This Song" is so grainy and rather cheap looking production-wise even though there are famous people in it It is funny though and it is all George so this was tough. "This Song" would have earned my vote in a lot of other pairings.

In order to generate some discussion: How many of these three videos did you see for the first time while playing this game?
Me, I know I'd never seen "Devil's Radio." "Inside Out" didn't look too familiar, either, but the Wilbury videos weren't too novel, so I may have seen it and just not remember it.

I don't see a chance for "This Song" to be tied, so I went ahead and voted for it. It does what I want in a video--marries the audio to the visual presentation. I doubt I'll vote against it the whole tourney.
