I don't quite get what's going on here. The digital versions have been out for a while on iTunes and Amazon.com. What's becoming available is high definition versions. But I don't see any mention of it on my iTunes account.
Also, the standard definition tracks are mastered for iTunes. This means they have been remixed to sound better in the mid-range area because the data is too compressed to hold the full sound. We have had conversations here about how Lennon's catalog was remixed to sound better a few years back. Is iTunes's remixes like the new mixes or the old mixes.
The high resolution tracks should be able to hold the full range of sound like an LP would but have the sonic improvements of CDs. Unfortunately, you can't put them on your iPod.

The hi-res are not on Amazon and iTunes, but elsewhere.

The release wasn't really clear. It's not Amazon and iTunes.

Neal Young, of all people, is developing an iPod style player for high resolution music tracks.
I guess we will have to buy everything all over again. I can hear the limitations of mp3s on my iPod played through my car stereo. CDs sound much better.
