I just borrowed the book THE BEATLES: AN ORAL HISTORY by David Pritchard & Alan Lysaght from a friend. I'd never heard of it before, but am finding it fascinating. Basically it is quotes from lots of different "Beatles people" throughout the years put together in rough chronological order to tell their story. What I am finding particularly interesting is that there are several stories in here that I had never read about until the Lewisohn book (including the Syd Coleman telling George Martin about the Beatles songs that was so debated on this site as to "why haven't we ever heard this one before") and a few that I don't think were even in the Lewisohn book. I'm only up to the Beatles arrival in the US, but I'm enjoying the book and wondering if anyone else has read it and any thoughts on why it flew "under the radar"?
As to that second part, I have a guess. This book came out in 1998. In The late 90's, the main focus of "all things Beatles" was the ANTHOLOGY. The TV special and CD's came out in 1995 and the rest of the 90's (and into the early 2000's) was taken up by much ANTHOLOGY related stuff: the VHS tapes, the DVD's, the ANTHOLOGY book, etc. The timing may just have been bad for this particular book to get any publicity.
Anyway back to reading...

Sounds interesting. Is it still available? You borrowed yours. I'll check to see if it is in print.

I'm up to the 66 tours. Lots of good stuff from interviews about "bigger than Jesus".
