The thread on Slade led me to creating this thread.
From my American perspective looking across the Atlantic, these are the BANDS that I think rose to the level (perhaps for a nano-second) of huge "England's Newest Hit Makers" media saturation and fan frenzy:
Slade T Rex Gary Glitter Bay City Rollers Oasis Stone Rose Duran Duran
Am I wrong? Who am I missing? Since there was no MTV or much cable in the 70s for some of them, I just seem to remember from reading Rolling Stone or Cream or Hit Parader or Circus other music magazines that these pre/post MTV performers were all touted as the next big thing, in Beatles terms.
For purposes of this, I'm not including bands like One Direction or pop singers. I'm interested only in rock bands that achieved this status. You the ones. They were always on Top of the Pops and the singles charts.
