Wow, this is another shocker. There was a time a few years back when I was collecting Airplane/Starship CDs. I was around in the 60's but too young to appreciate the Airplane, although I think I always loved the two big hits, especially White Rabbit. Starship was more my era with Ride the Tiger and the albums that were out around that time. I wasn't buying the music in the 70's but I liked them on the radio. I think this photo was posted here a while back. I just snagged it from an older wogblog post. Both guys look like Jorma to me here but I guess Kantner is the closest one. (FYI - you can double click the photo to see the larger version.)

Would love to know where it came from.

They were supposed to play at my high school Senior Prom in NJ in 1973. We were really bummed out when they canceled at the last moment. Of course we also could have had a local band by the name of E Street with a kid in it who went to my high school 5 years earlier but they were busy too. Oh well. The band they got was good and I got laid on the beach that night and watched the sun come up over the ocean at dawn, so all's well that ended well!

I remember it being kind of cold when I went to my Junior then Senior Proms! That's why we got motel rooms! My date for my Junior year ended up in jail. Wow, those were the days!

This was sad news about both members of JA! I had no idea that there was another female singer before Grace Slick.
