Interesting version of "Carrie Ann" with violins from the BBC. Never seen this one before. Holy cow, how did I miss this! This is the very video that caused my first man-crush ever on Tony Hicks, lead guitarist of The Hollies! How can man or woman not watch Tony do his lead vocal part and not fall hopelessly in love with him?! I thought I had an earlier man-crush on John Oates, you know, the dark, perky one from Hall & Oates, but I realized that that was just lust from my clubbing days! There is a big difference!

The video that launched a thousand crushes on Tony Hicks!
Tony is irresistible in this clip. Fortunately, if one searches YouTube, there are other snippets from this concert from which to develop an infatuation with this outstanding lead guitarist.
Graham Nash might have left the group over the "Hollies Sing Dylan" project, but Allan Clarke turns in some tremendous vocals on This Wheel's on Fire, When the Ship Comes In,and Quit Your Lowdown Ways, among others. Their Blowin' in the Wind is a bit too Vegas-loungey but they did not deserve the scorn from Graham Nash, who was trying to gain credibility with CSN.
Curious, isn't it, that Crosby (Byrds and CSN), Stills (Buffalo Springfield and CSN) and Young (Buffalo Springfield and solo) were inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The only way Nash could get in twice, and therefore be on par with CSNY, was to lobby for The Hollies to be inducted. And the Hollies certainly deserved the honor.

And whether it is Graham Nash or not, the other Hollies always try to trip Tony up on his lead vocal part in "Carrie Ann" by yelling or hooting, someone does it here: yells to distract Tony and he smiles and just melts my heart! There is another video where the boys are in Yugoslavia or something and Nash gets downright obnoxious hooting and hollering during Tony's lead vocal part and he causes Tony to crack up laughing. I think it was jealousy in that the girls and boys were falling for Tony during that song!
