Taking a cue from a few people's comments on the single disc WHITE ALBUM thread, I came up with an idea for a CD to give my son for his birthday (I always make a CD for my kids).
The CD is called: THE WHITE ALBUM (SIDES 5 & 6)!!!
Basically I took a bunch of the songs I had the ability to burn and came up with the list below. It is 58 minutes long-probably a bit long for two sides of an LP-but for the CD era, I'll go with it.
Below I've listed the tracks and the sources I got it from and comments.
THE BEATLES WHITE ALBUM (SIDES 5 & 6)
1. Lady Madonna (PAST MASTERS VOL. 2): A good rocking opener
2. Across The Universe (ANTHOLOGY 2): The best version of this great song in my opinion
3. Only A Northern Song (YELLOW SUBMARINE SONGTRACK): was worked on during SGT PEPPER sessions
4. Junk (ANTHOLOGY 3): Unfinished, but still good
5. Child Of Nature (Kinfaus bootleg): surprisingly good quality. This was reworked as "Jealous Guy" for IMAGINE
6. Not Guilty (ANTHOLOGY 3): This song is better than about half the actual album. George got the shaft.
7. Hey Bulldog (YELLOW SUBMARINE SONGTRACK): This is fun to listen to and man does this song rock!!!!
8. All Together Now (YELLOW SUBMARINE SONGTRACK): Continuing the "fun" theme
9. The Inner Light (PAST MASTERS VOL. 2): I love this song and it is a good time to get serious.
10. Step Inside Love/Los Paranoias (ANTHOLOGY 3): Sort of like putting "Honey Pie" and "Wild Honey Pie" back to back!
11. Sour Milk Sea (Kinfaus bootleg): Quality is a little shaky, but this is a damn good song!
12. Revolution (PAST MASTERS VOL. 2): Love the contrast of the loud rock following a soft bootleg!
13. Hey Jude (PAST MASTERS VOL. 2): Thought about closing with this, but I like it following "Revolution"
14. Circles (Kinfaus sessions): Yet another song George had lying around that wasn't pursued
15. You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) (PAST MASTERS VOL. 2): Paired with WTNMJ is better than "Revolution 9"
16. What's The New Mary Jane (Kinfaus sessions): Better than the ANTHOLOGY 3 version as it is much shorter
17. It's All Too Much (YELLOW SUBMARINE SONGTRACK): I like this as the closer to this CD
So what do you think?
