Never realized there was a full performance video and that George played electric not acoustic.

That's a great song from John from a time when John and George must have been close friends, something they don't appear to have been at the end of John's life.

That was a cool performance. That would have been a great song on a mythical 1971 Beatles album.

Probably my favourite song of all John's solo stuff.

Probably my favourite song of all John's solo stuff. I would have gambled on that! Let me guess... do you also like "Love" ?

I remember that my son, who is a big Beatles fan, but not as knowledgeable about the deeper cuts of their solo work (except McCartney) first heard "Oh My Love" he was amazed he had never heard it before and how good it was. Like Vectis, he felt it may be John's best solo song.

Yes. Also Mother, Crippled Inside, Oh Yoko, Dear Yoko... Of the songs you mentioned, I'm a big fan of Oh My Love, Love, Crippled Inside, and Oh Yoko. Dear Yoko is just a tad below these. Mother is not among my Lennon favorites. But of all of these Oh My Love would be tops. Top 10 Lennon solo for sure, maybe top 5.

Watching the Wheels is pretty damn good. And Real Love is maybe his best solo. Or is that a Beatles's song?

If Paul, George, and Ringo say it is a Beatle song, which I believe they did, then it is. Makes no difference what any fan thinks.

(And also Yoko saying it's a Beatles song, speaking on John's behalf as his widow). Four Beatles singing and playing on it.

They want you to believe it's a Beatles song, and you do, mission accomplished, even if the reality is they took a Lennon solo song and used it as a promotional gimmick for the Anthology project. At least George realised it was bogus and put a stop to releasing a 3rd Lennon solo song.

And then it became a Beatles song -- you've got all The Beatles playing on it - and vocalizing together. It went out as a record with their blessing under their group name of THE BEATLES, re-formed. (This should be quite simple to understand, really). As for George, I guess it took him two songs.

George has a lot to answer for letting that other dross hit the streets, twice in fact. Ah, but right here you prove what I've suspected... that you don't want to acknowledge those songs as "The Beatles" simply because you feel they're 'dross'. (I'm thinking you'd be happy to consider them THE BEATLES if they were hugely great and were big hits). I agree that neither song was exceptional, but whether they were dross or classics, it doesn't change that they were Beatles songs.

They aren't Beatles songs, they were augmented Lennon demos used as a marketing tool to sell the Anthology, to top up the pensions of the surviving Beatles and the Estate of the slain.

They aren't Beatles songs, they were augmented Lennon demos used as a marketing tool to sell the Anthology, to top up the pensions of the surviving Beatles and the Estate of the slain. It doesn't make any difference "why" the surviving Beatles did those songs. What matters is that they decided to reunite and do them as The Beatles. It also means nothing that the origin of John's portion was as demos.
