Here is a refreshing article or blog that gives some rock solid examples of John's unique but very special and cool guitar playing primarily as the Beatles' Rhythm Guitarist! culturesonar.com/john-lennon-guitarist/The list is very incomplete but how nice to see these days an article pointing out the musical strengths of John(not his many faults which is all some folks want to talk about) and what he added instrumentally to The Beatles! No knocks on Paul or George at all, just positive reminders that John contributed so much to the sound we love! An example I'll throw out is John's plaintive acoustic guitar strumming to open "A Day In The Life" is so damn expressive to me! It sets the tone beautifully for John's likewise plaintive singing and the rest of that masterpiece!

John's Rhythm guiter on the B-Side "Revolution" is simply ass-kicking!
Come on Vectis, you are not suggesting that John was to guitar for The Beatles as Linda was to keyboards for Wings per a recent pronouncement by Macca?
How about the live version of "She's A Woman"(such as the Hollywood Bowl version) where John drives the band with that heavy, crunching opening?

I am querying the use of the word "genius" in this context. I don't think any of them were individual geniuses at anything.

"All My Loving" is one of the best. My son, a musician, has told me it is very difficult to play. More importantly (to me anyway) is that it sounds great!!!!

I love when musicians compliment John's guitar playing! His solo on "Get Back" is not meant to blow one over but man does it get the job done! And if I am not mistaken, John does all the guitar work in "The Ballad Of John and Yoko" and that is rocking good fun!

I love all the instrumental work on The Ballad Of John & Yoko plus I love the lead and backing vocals. Great fun all around at a time when the conventional wisdom sayd John and Paul hated each other. Well for whateve amount of time it took to record that song they certainly played and sang like true friends! I've heard some outtakes (including dialogue) and they are a rollicking good time as well!!!!
