Odd, there was NO coverage of the concert on the morning news shows, unless I fast forwarded through it and didn't see it. The Today show did a story on the Stones. The kept showing their picture and I thought it was going to be about the desert show but it turned out to be about the new album. No mention of the show. Odd.

The Stones played Come Together! Yawn... I have heard teenage garage bands do better covers of this song. Tell Keith and Ronnie to pull out their old Abbey Road albums and listen to what The Beatles did instrumentally on the track. They sounded pitiful... Maybe Paul can do a cover of "Satisfaction" when he is on....

The Stones played Come Together! It was awful. Granted the original lyrics are nonsensical, but Mick still could have bothered to get them down correctly.

Yawn... I have heard teenage garage bands do better covers of this song. That's a fair statement based on that footage, but I surmise that actually being there or hearing and seeing official footage might reveal otherwise. Let's see. I have to admit that I'm wondering why Charlie didn't to the characteristic drum part Ringo and everyone else does. It's as signature to the song as anything else.

That's hilarious! I can't believe he did it. The band does this in their sound checks, so I guess it was easy to add it to the playlist.

The Today Show did a story this morning on Desert Trip. For the McCartney mention, they played a sniplet of 1985. That was kind of cool that they didn't go with a Beatles' song.

I noticed that the video above omits a few songs. Paul's voice sounds good. Looking at reviews and all of them say the Stones were really good and rocked. So, I'm going to assume that Come Together sounded a lot better than the version above.
All reviews I've read are in agreement that the Stones, Paul, Neil Young, and Roger Waters were superb. Dylan was fine, but made no concessions for being at a large festival. I've read some that thought the Who were tired.

Paul's entire Desert Trip performance. Video by Corner Sound Cool! I watched most of it. I skipped a little here and there. Am I the only one who'd like to hear the last verse of A Day in the Life? I liked the slight lyric change in one spot. "Tell me soon, tell me the answer. You may be a lover but you an't no dancer" Too bad Neil didn't come out for The End. Although, Paul and the band did a great job with the solos. I have heard them sound a little spotty at times but here, they are quite crackin'!

I thought the song sounded great on the video above. There was a monitor in front of Mick. I'd have to check it to get the verse order right. Once I get the first line, I'm alright. Good enough for the shower, anyway.
And they are not going to sing a Beatles' song and get the words right. Come on. They have to keep some self respect.
And right, Charlie can't handle Ringo's drum roll.

Wonder what his set list will be for next weekend. I will just have to wait until then. For this performance on the video I posted, I liked how Paul discovered that the ukulele he was playing on Something was out of tune and then he was given one that was in tune. Loved his sense of humor when he said that it at least shows that we're playing live. www.paulmccartney.com/live

It very well could be new schtick. We'll have to wait to see if he starts to play certain songs on an out of tune instrument and then stops and is given new instrument and then starts the song over.

He in fact made a false start for "You Never Give Me Your Money" part of his schtick in the'03 tour. He did it at MSG and a version ended up on the CD with the same mistake.

Crap!!!!!!! If I had heard earlier I would have made 2 hour drive. I've been to Pappy and Harriet's. It's a super tiny place in a super tiny place. Pioneertown used to be "Western" movie set way back in the 30's or 40's. It grew has quarters were being built for the movie crews. Eventually, it became sort of an outdoor museum. Pappy and Harriet's is a stopping point for a lot of indie bands of all genre's. But, really well-known people have played there like Robert Plant, Dandy Warhols, etc. For Paul to play there is REALLY a big deal. It's bigger than Amoeba Records. I oh so wish I could be there.

I hope it's being filmed. Maybe Paul is testing out some of the deep cuts he'll be playing Saturday at the second Desert Trip show.

I wanted to f_ck_ng throw up when I heard Paul McCartney sing on "Why Don't We Do It In The Road." And yes, I thought the Rolling Stones were totally listless and lame on "Come Together."
If one is objective, he/she would have to admit that "Oldchello" was a huge f_ck_ng embarrassment as far as all of our 1960's heroes went!

Don't know what you've been reading, but I'm not sure very many people who were there would agree. I'm sure many amateur videos taken from cell phones may have presented thin, lackluster, and off key performances, but most of the reviews were good and I have not seen many negative comments by people who were there - young or old.

To really put this Pappy and Harriet's show in perspective. It's 2 hours from LA, 32 miles from Palm Springs. Its closest "big city" is Yucca Valley - population just over 20,000. Pioneer Town isn't even a town. It's in the high desert. There's nothing out there, except sand and Joshua trees. Pappy and Harriet's is a small biker bar/restaurant. The stage is barely big enough to hold the entire band, if they play inside. Good food and drink.
