Rolling Stone has a long lost interview with John from December 5, 1980. A good read.

You beat me to it Mark but thanks for remembering this day, 36 years on from the day the music really died! John Lennon has been relegated to the dustbins of history and with the effort of one of his beast friends! But today we can remember the man taken away from us too soon. I have been playing Walls & Bridges in my car the past two days and what a great, all-but-forgotten album! For a couple days at least it seemed that John was here and playing his heart and soul out over my car stereo!

Johnny Rhythm this day. Haven't seen any news stories so far. They are having a screening out in L.A. tonite of the movie re-enacting John's murder and all the drama that went on in the ER room of the hospital as he bled to death. There's a good way to spend the day remembering him..... I fail to see the point of making a movie about a cold blooded murder of a great musician by a piece of scum whose only motive was his own infamy to come out of the event. And he still has a nice comfy home in Attica, three meals a day, even conjugal visits from his former girlfriend if he so desires. I am sure he'd love to see the movie. Oh that's right. I hear they don't mention his name in the film...Well, now I guess it's ok for us all to re-live the moment over and over for all the great dramatic impact it had in the ER.... I am sure Paul, Ringo, Yoko, Sean, and Julian will run right out and catch it asap... How about lighting a candle in a place of worship today for John? Or remembering him by putting on a Beatles record and singing along and remembering fondly what he contributed to all of us through his music? RIP John. If they will ever let you do that.....

Beautiful tribute. Here is another good memory. After everything Julian went through as John's forgotten son growing up, his love for his half-brother and his way of dealing with how Yoko treated him after his dad was murdered, all I can say is I have a great amount of respect and admiration for Julian. He is a true mensch in every sense of the word.

I was rather 'shocked and stunned' at the Liverpool Echo's piece RIP John Lennon - look back at the night the Beatles legend diedThis time of year is always tinged with the sadness of the tragedy of losing John Lennon. Normally our local newspaper (which reaches out to the 'scouse' nation across the globe) is well aware of the Beatles legacy. To say that I am 'extremely disappointed' with that piece of journalism would be playing to to a certain racial stereotype of British understatement. Please tell me if I am wrong?

That was a crap article! Well, some of us remember John Lennon even if he is being erased by a strong faction in Pepperland to tidy up the story, sanitize the story and allow more glory to a certain surviving member. Ah! Bowakawa, pousse pousse Ah! Bowakawa, pousse pousse Ah! Bowakawa, pousse pousse

100,000 re-gathered in Central Park December 8, 2016, but unfortunately it was on the rumor of a Wings reunion concert!
Denny Laine was spotted hawking CDs out of the back of his 1979 Chevy station wagon!
Actually the photo I posted from 1980 looks like it could have been taken last Winter at a Bernie Sanders rally!

I started to make a joke about Bernie's age and how old he would had been in 1980 but then I figured out he was 39 years old; a year younger than Lennon. That kind of took the fun out of it.

I haven't forgotten John Lennon and suspect I never will. It's hard to maintain as much contemporary interest in him though, in comparison with Paul McCartney, simply because of 36 years of passed time and missing work. We're probably going to get a new McCartney studio album in a few months. The Last Lennon one was back in the early 1980s and that was posthumous.

But the pictures from this past Thursday night in Central Park shown on TV show John has not been relegated to the dustbins. For someone who has been gone 36 years, he can still gather huge crowds to remember him on the anniversary. The Beatles are still the gold standard to which everyone else in that line of work are measured. They will be long after the rest of us are dust blowing around this planet. Including the scum that still occupies space up in Attica.

Including the scum that still occupies space up in Attica. I am glad they gathered recently in NYC, that is heartwarming. As to John's legacy remaining with us, John's Solo music catalog is in good shape sonically. In 2010 we had his entire Solo catalog re-mastered using the original mixes as approved by John(except for Milk & Honey). The Solo albums thus sound great. I even prefer some of the remixed versions from the early to mid-2000's especially for Mind Games and Rock-N-Roll. IMO those albums were brought to life and flourish with the remixes showing that they are in fact strong showings by John, always marred by the muddy sound quality of the original releases both on vinyl and first wave CD. Those may be out of print now but worth finding! So for audio, John's Beatles and Solo work is in good shape! Sadly in the visual department we are left with grainy interviews of him(as opposed to the wonderful filmed interviews of Paul, George and Ringo in Anthology) and just a few grainy filmed live musical appearances like Stones' Rock and Roll Circus, Toronto, One To One, Ann Arbor, and some live musical TV appearances. We have glorious concert DVDs of Paul and Ringo in HD and even some spectacular footage of songs George did in Japan in 1991 on the Dark Horse DVD(I wish we would get an entire concert from that tour on DVD) but John's concert or live TV performances are all so grainy and old looking. That contributes to making John seem so far away and a distant memory. 36 years is a long time ago. John's music lives on though and I just wish people would re-explore more of John's catalog than just "Imagine" or "(Just Like)Starting Over" although those are two great places to start.

What about the just released "Eight Days A Week" movie? Some of the video clips of Beatles concerts look great! Cleaned up, in color, sound much better. The fact that John died in 1980, 36 years ago, means everything of him is dated. Can't do much about that, just like you can't blame Paul & Ringo for everything they have done since then looking visually better due to technology. But any Beatles footage can't look like it was shot yesterday, but it sure can sound now like it was recorded yesterday! I think the cleaned up footage in the EDAW movie and it's even better extras is fabulous. I will lay odds 100 years from now it will be The Beatles footage and music that is still viewed and played more so than any solo material or the likes of Paul's current band or Ringo's All-Starr Bands which will also look dated then as well.

Yes indeed. I've waited patiently for our local newspaper the Liverpool Echo to redeem itself after last year's piece of crap. But this year it didn't even bother with anything about John Lennon. I guess it's a sign of the times. It's owned by a media company based outside the city of Liverpool now and has lost that local touch. Meh! So now it's been 37 years I'll just post my own short tribute. Because of that fateful day we never got to see a re-united Beatles. We never got to hear 37 more years of new John Lennon music. Nor were we allowed to hear his views on the Beatles and the wider world in the time that has passed.
There is nothing any of us can do about that no matter how bitter, sad and frustrated we feel about it. So I will just thank Johnny for his contribution to humanity while he was here. Thank you John Lennon for the hours of pleasure you gave me listening to the Beatles and your solo music. I also thank you for shaking up the world a little bit during your time on Planet Earth. You are gone but will never be forgotten.

What happened here
As the New York sunset disappeared
I found an empty garden among the flagstones there
Who lived here
He must have been a gardener that cared a lot
Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop
And now it all looks strange
It's funny how one insect can damage so much grain
