The Man Who Gave The Beatles Away: Allan Williams, who was the Fab Four's first manager, has died aged 86.
It was Williams who drove the young lads from Liverpool to Hamburg in a van in 1960, where they got their first gigs and created their own special sound. Despite losing out on the biggest band in British music history, Williams stayed in the music scene on Merseyside later went on to found a famous club, the Jacaranda.

It was Alan and his wife who drove them to Hamburg the first time after getting them the gig in 1961, and they took a break on the way there where the infamous photo in front of the WWII memorial, shot by John of the others was taken that had the saying; " Their Name Liveth For Evermore." Sends chills down my back everytime I see the photo. Hope Paul, and Pete Best post their condolences to Alan's passing. They should. RIP Allan. You were one of the first to help them.

Here is that picture lowbasso. Most prophetic picture of The Beatles ever. Right up there with the one taken of John, Paul, and Ringo in Central Park the weekend of the first Ed Sullivan Show in Feb. 1964 with the Dakota Apartment building visible in the distance behind them in the photo. I will have to dig that one up as well. I have it on my computer.

This is very sad news, the end of an era! I love Allan Williams and have viewed him as among the greatest characters in The Beatles' story after reading his book. I hold him up there with the band members themselves. They don't make them like Allan Williams anymore. He was a loveable scoundrel and probably a real prick at times but he also had a heart and I think he treated The Beatles better than they ever treated him. Come on Apple and Beatles, wasn't there something you could have done for Alan in later years, some bone to throw him?? I regret not having gotten to Liverpool when one could find him at a pub and for a drink or two purchased get some personal anecdotes on The Beatles and laugh one's ass off! Here is an audio recording of such: Here is an interview clip with Allan Williams(and Pete Best in spots) and he is all cleaned up and looking good. I need to order The Compleat Beatles on DVD in part to the William's interviews. Did he ever update his book? Cynthia Lennon essentially re-wrote hers when the climate was right for more salacious tid-bits of the Fabs. Allan Williams could have made Macca really sweat(John and George being long gong to embarrass). But I think deep down he loved them to the end. Liverpool is a less interesting place without Allan Williams I am afraid. R.I.P. Allan Williams!

My sister met him a couple of years ago (Summer of 2015??). She was working at a local event revolving around the 60s Mersey Bands and said he was absolutely lovely fella for an hour or so. That was until he began downing the red wine and whatever else he could scrounge off people wanting to hear a Beatle story. Then he became a bit difficult to handle and began cursing his luck. (I've put that mildly). I think he really loved the guys but maybe felt aggrieved at missing out on his goldmine. I guess he was a bit of a scoundrel at times. Who could blame him though? RIP Allan Williams.

I think he was a Liverpool version of Allen Klein but with a heart deep down and that he did care about the band members even if he wanted to often bash them! I wish The Beatles had done something for him later on but he probably would have demanded more!

Imagine sitting at a bar with the two of them drinking and co-miserating both their fates involving The Beatles.

Hope Paul, and Pete Best post their condolences to Alan's passing. They should. I've seen Pete Best's condolences, but not anything from Paul, which is pretty poor (IMO).......There is no hope Pete Best, will ever get any nice words from Paul, when his time comes? Instead Paul's given condolences, to other singers and celebrities outside the Beatles circle? (Eg George Michael, David Bowie, Carrie Fisher? etc)

Instead Paul's given condolences, to other singers and celebrities outside the Beatles circle? (Eg George Michael, David Bowie, Carrie Fisher? etc) Sure, this is hardly surprising. Paul is all about PR, and he focuses on whatever is more popular to do. Everyone knew who George Michael and Carrie Fisher were; only diehard Beatles fans knew Allan Williams.

Paul sometimes forgets the people who once helped him when he was starting out. His ego has been his greatest fault.
