Now that this Beatles Forum appears to be on death row, can anyone recommend a Beatles forum that is still thriving.

Steve's Facebook Beatles Page is much more informative and has a lot of people who write for Beatlefan magazine in the States on it as well as many more international fans. Steve puts most of his Beatle News articles on that page. Seems more interested in that forum. I agree this forum is on life support. Many threads not even Beatle related anymore.

Now that this Beatles Forum appears to be on death row, can anyone recommend a Beatles forum that is still thriving. I'm fairly familiar with the obvious forums, as you can find with a simple Google search. They all seem to be characterized by people who know very little of the Fabs, and rarely rise above the "What's your fave song" level. You can (of course!) try them, but they are pretty dire. This site is unique in being a complete dog's breakfast, with so many sub-forums - many of them unused for years. This forum is dying because SM is not competent at keeping it tidy, resulting in a complete turn-off for people that come across it.
BUT if you want a good forum to read and contribute to, try:
Steve Hoffman's Forums. Plenty of people can't abide Hoffman himself, but the forum is excellent. Lots of stuff about music apart from the Fabs, but plenty of Fabs as well. The thing that impresses me is how knowledgeable many contributors are. There's also an excellent search function, so you can reach way back into the past, and gorge yourself on Beatle-lore!
There you go!

OK, I deserved this. I apologize for not giving you all more attention. I've been busy with a lot of things, including Beatles articles. But I also should visit here more often and I haven't. Not gonna make excuses. I will try to do more. The question is ... what would you like?

Hoffman's forum is busy, but it's a mixture of people with industry knowledge and people who think they know. And it seems the ignorance gets accepted as fact. But it's not bad, and I'm there myself on occasion.

The members who frequent this forum have always seemed more interested in Solo Beatles stories and projects which is not surprising given the band has not existed for 47 years, and two of the four members are no longer with us. The ages of most forum members here have a lot to do with that I suppose. I (as a 1st generation fan) am regarded sometimes as "old-fashioned" over here for preferring more discussions on band era subjects as opposed to post-band era solo projects. So I have drifted over to your Facebook page where I find more of that. Given the obvious dearth of Beatles band news, new or old, with two members gone, over here folks often divert to threads not having anything much to do with anything Beatle related, but to other pop music bands or individuals. I have found your Beatles articles posted on your Facebook page very enlightening not only for their news value, but your followers there are people who often either write for Beatle news formats themselves or are considered highly qualified in the Beatle world of knowledge, especially in the era of when the band existed. So I personally enjoy their comments and knowledge on whatever the news is that is being discussed. It is much more objective comment rather than subjective comments found more commonly over here. I think your Facebook Page reaches a lot more people overall as well. I think this forum here needs more interested followers like you have on the Facebook page along the lines of so-called fellow "Media Beatle Experts" like yourself, as well as the common fans, of which I fall into, to sustain it as a viable Beatles Forum, which is what I think you want it to be. That hasn't happened so that is why I have drifted over to your Facebook page for that particular forum. Is Facebook more viable now in reaching more people than a platform like this forum?

I am not sure whether the interest in Solo Beatles vs Beatles is accurate or not. But we are nearly 50 years since the Beatles were, arguably, at their creative peak as a working band. I think internet forums all over the web are slowing down because social media such as Facebook is much easier to access on a smart phone and it's all in one place for people. Personally I find the layout of Facebook rather awkward and distracting. Perhaps the enthusiasm is also on the wane here? Or maybe it's just a blip and things will pick up again? I have always enjoyed this forum as a great place to discuss Beatles related matters with you all. But, just like the Beatles, it is only as good as the sum of its parts. Whilst we rely to some extent on new Beatles releases and news etc. it also relies on us all to keep it alive by both posting new items and responding.

I don't know if that's true or not. A lot of people on FB are great, some aren't as far as Beatle knowledge goes. You guys are good. I guess the answer would be to see if we can get a few good people over here.

Slim lining this board would help stimulate conversations, if solo careers were all put together or alternatively put in with the band's discussions people would be more likely to view. I know I don't click through every single board to read each thread. The band may well not have existed for 47 years but there is lots to talk about. Both Beach Boys boards I also frequent have thousands of members and new threads every day so something needs tweaking (see www.smileysmile.net/board and But it is true, a lot of the other forums are awful for the Beatles, this is best but I'd love to sink my teeth into some decent subjects which don't die after 3 / 4 posts. We need more members...

The question is ... what would you like? Steve, what would you think about promoting this message board on the "Things We Said Today" podcast? Maybe a lot of listeners would join up here.
