Apparently there will be a 50th anniversary edition of the Sgt. Pepper's album including "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane"
I am not certain of the format at the moment and how they will be slipped onto the album. Nor does it mention any remixing process.
There is also the possibility of an accompanying film "It Was 50 Years Ago Today, Sgt Pepper and Beyond’ being released come June as well. See : Screendaily.com

I want an official announcement with all the details before saying too much, but I like the general idea. The only real problem I have with it is that I assume the release of Paul’s next studio album will now be delayed.
I have said here before that I favour the issuing of deluxe versions of the Beatles' albums. I don’t know if the SPLHCB reissue will go that far, but I hope so. They could do a 4CD box incorporating the original album, the reissue including the two extra tracks, a remixed album and a disc of bonus audio.

Apple missed the opportunity to reissue 50th anniversary versions of each if their albums.
I'd be interested in a new release of Sgt Pepper if it includes bonus, alternate, demo material and isolations.

Whatever it is, Apple will a) seek to sell fans the same stuff again with some fancy packaging and b) screw it up.

Like KC wrote above, I am not going to say too much other than Apple has never hit a home run on these re-issues other than the 2009 re-masters which were very good with the exception of John's songs on Revolver which sound terrible, the 1987 CD versions of them are better! Sabotage?! I think what artists like Dylan and Springsteen(just to name two) give their fans with amazing boxsets and then I think of Apple and it pisses me off! I am still seething that we did not get the entire 1964 and 1965 setlists for the Hollywood Bowl concerts! That was understandable in 1977 if Capitol was going to just do one album but in the era of download and CDs, that is inexcusable!

So, assuming that this newspaper story is not simply completely wrong, what would you like to see in a fiftieth anniversary edition of Sgt. Pepper? There are a number of possibilities. I'm not against a revised list track as long as it is not intended to actually replace the extant album we have known all these years. I would be against it then. If it was just offered as something extra, like Let It Be Naked, then I am OK with that. Then again, they might just include Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane as bonus tracks tagged on to the end of the normal album. That would be underwhelming, but might be accompanied by extra artwork and liner notes. Even that might work out OK. Then there is the possibility of a whole extra disc of bonus audio. That would be even better. What about a remix?
Personally, I think that Sgt. Pepper, of all albums, is worthy of a big box as well as a cheaper anniversary edition. They did a box for Pipes Of Peace!

Keep the remaster in issue. Then, for the special edition:
1. Remix of the original album; 2. Resequenced album; 3. 3rd disc of bonus content.

I will be pissed off if this is just the 2009 remasters with SFF and PL tacked on the end and a "bonus" disc of the same Pepper outtakes from Anthology 2 but just put in a new package with some writings by some talking head going on about 50 years this and 50 years that!

www.facebook.com/LEGO/videos/10154059969713403/I've been thinking about what I expect for 'arguably' the greatest pop/rock album ever produced (after the news a few days ago). 1) I want the original album produced and remixed like "Yellow Submarine Songtrack" along with "Penny Lane" and "Strawberry Fields". If all we are getting in the new package is two songs added to the original album using the 2009 remasters then what is the point of us buying it? Anyone who owns the Beatles back catalogue can play around with the track listing. So I want a remixed and remastered album as above. 2) I want "Carnival of Light" as an added bonus track. 3) There should be an accompanying DVD/Blu-Ray with surround sound using the RockBand animations and any other footage from the period. Added to that I would like to see historical Sgt. Pepper Documentary or two. If they want a 'talking heads' story from the modern day then so be it. 4) Alternative mixes including those mono mixes that are noticeably different. 5) A booklet detailing the sessions, the photoshoots and alternative album covers and artwork. And it should all cost no more than £10

Nope, stick to the music and only 1967 film clips and interviews when the lads were all here and all Fab! I thought the contemporary interviews of Paul and Ringo marred the Ron Howard film for those very same reasons.

I thought the contemporary interviews of Paul and Ringo marred the Ron Howard film for those very same reasons. Those two old blokes were actually part of the Beatles? Oh My God!!! I see where you are coming from JSD. My main points though would be that the album should be remixed and remastered to the same quality in production that the Yellow Sub Songtrack was produced. I think Paul and Ringo left George in charge of that project (correct me if I'm wrong) and I think he did an outstanding job giving the tracks a refreshing modern sound. That should form the basis for the basic CD Package. I am slightly uncomfortable about adding "Penny Lane" and "Strawberry Fields Forever" to the Pepper album. In this age of repacking everything that's gone before I hope it doesn't ruin the flow of the album. Tagging them both onto the end of the album seems pointless. So where will they slot the tracks? I suspect it will be after "Mr. Kite" and before "Within You Without You". As for the rest of the package (if there is one?) then I think a lesson should be learned from the McCartney Remasters [Disasters] Project. Go with a basic CD release and then a de-luxe (but reasonably priced) product for the hardcore fans. A DVD and extra CD would suffice as long as Apple give us value for money. (My lack of faith in that will seem disturbing!). I hope the BBC, with their vast library of clips, are allowed make a new Pepper TV documentary for the 50th anniversary. They rarely let us down when it comes to the Beatles. Finally I hope you in the US and fans in other nations get to see it.

I totally agree Stavros that a really cool remix of the songs like the YS Songtrack album would be very cool. I am all for a BBC documentary on Pepper but Apple itself will let us down, I am certain of it!

Here's a remix that may have gone too far. It has some tape bleed from another Abbey Road act. It sounds good though.

It's All Too Much was recorded at the same time as Pepper. It could go on the bonus disc.
Hey, while we are at it, why not this song too.
It's the McCoys! Best know for Hang on Sloopy and the band Rick Derringer came from.

I have been looking for news on this new Sgt. Pepper release for the 50th anniversary. It seems that there will be big celebrations in Liverpool and many other parts of the world to mark the album's longevity. Almost makes me want to travel all the way to Liverpool But there is still very little news on the CD release. Rumours are that this upcoming 50th anniversary CD package will feature a new stereo mix of the album (including Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever), a new surround-sound mix, and also some out-takes from the album sessions. But as yet absolutely nothing confirmed. I guess much of the remix work was done for the Yellow Sub Songtrack as a number of the Pepper tracks are on that album. It may yet breathe new life into an album that still remains iconic after all these years. Although I guess it's influence has waned as each new generation comes along.

There is another music Message Board with 250 pages of speculation and just plain bullshit about this alleged release.
Posters there pretend to have inside info but they are full of it!
I wish Apple was upfront for once and stop being so mysterious. We fans are dying off too quickly for these games.

I wish Apple was upfront for once and stop being so mysterious. We fans are dying off too quickly for these games. As Abraham Lincoln said to his Saxon troops back in 1066 when facing the French Armada. I can think of a few reasons as to what may be going on behind the scenes. If the original album is being remixed and re-imaged for surround sound then that will almost certainly have been done and ready to go. Video and out-takes may well be a stickier issue. We all know the tell of how Paul wanted Carnival of Light on Anthology and how we got "Eleanor Rigby" instrumental instead. Even "Now and Then" never materialized. So maybe Yoko has found audio tape of John running Paul through parts of "She's Leaving Home" that he (John) wrote and there is big debate about whether it should be released? Of course the other reason is probably that the marketing has to be just right and to get maximum bang for the buck and a full press release will be made just before release date. I am actually looking forward to this now. I missed the first summer of love when Pepper originally came out. Maybe 2017 will be known as the second summer of love? The world will rediscover the Beatles and Sgt. Pepper and it will be a fantastic summer!

You know, though I was only seven when Sgt. Pepper came out and I didn't even hear the album until the 1970s, when I think back about it, 1967 was, for various reasons, probably the happiest year of my life.

I was ten in '67, turned eleven in late October. I was the perfect age for Beatlemania at seven when I saw them on Ed Sullivan. I liked the bubblegum cards and the music was great for a young kid. She Loves You was always my favorite song. My brother bought Meet the Beatles. I loved everything on it.
I think the Sullivan show kind of killed the early excitement by giving the Hermit Hermits and the Dave Clark Five the same sort of treatment.
My brother left for the Army and later Viet Nam and took the music with him. By '66 and '67 it was all playing outside and TV at night. We didn't listen to the radio much at all. I had let my hair grow into a pretty good Beatles '66 mop top by then. My next door neighbor kids kept saying in their Louisville inner city hillbilly voices "You need a haircut, do you?". A few year later, after they had been gone from the neighborhood a few years, one of the kids came back to the neighborhood to visit. His hair had grown out to the regular mid-seventies haircut all the school kid boys had by then. I had to give him a "You need a haircut, do you?". He laughed. "Yeah, I do."
My brother came back from Nam in late '68. He had Sgt Pepper and the White Album. I remember the White Album had that orange Viet Nam dirt all over it. I liked both albums and was kind of shocked at how the Beatles had changed.
It was a few years later, probably mid seventies, I was helping my brother wash his car when Strawberry Fields came on. It was probably the first time I thought "This is great music! It is much better than I ever thought it could be!"

......It was a few years later, probably mid seventies, I was helping my brother wash his car when Strawberry Fields came on. It was probably the first time I thought "This is great music! It is much better than I ever thought it could be!" I can't remember when it was exactly (although it was sometime in the 1970s) but I also remember a moment thinking that Strawberry Fields was something special when I heard it. I was listening to the "Blue" album. It might have been 1976 as a Beatles renaissance seemed to be taking place around that time. I really became a massive Beatles fan during that period and then sort of overdosed on them to a point that by the early 1980s I'd moved on to listening to the more contemporary artists of the times. But, even though some of those early 80s bands have enjoyed a longevity and permanent place in musical history too, I still think Strawberry Fields Forever is a rare timeless pieces of popular music. In fact it's a piece of art not just a 'pop' song. As for the "Pepper" album I've often thought Revolver or Abbey Road to be better. But I am looking forward to this 50th anniversary now with all the pomp that seems to have been organised for it. Sadly Apple missed the boat on every other release for the past few years!!!

KC, my SFF is remarkably close in time and manner as yours, in fact about identical! My magical SFF moment came on a wet, rainy April Saturday in 1976 when I hibernated in my bedroom with my brand new "Blue Album" and the moment I heard the very first song on that comp, yep SFF, I knew I was never leaving The Beatles! I get goosebumps thinking of that Saturday afternoon/early evening playing the Blue Album two or three complete times back to back!

Right looks like the cat's finally out of the bag and sneezing on Pepper. www.youtube.com/feature=player_embeddedFirst thing that springs to mind is that "Penny Lane" and "Strawberry Fields Forever" have been tagged onto the 2nd disc with a bunch of out takes. Despite the previous publicity Apple have 'bottled' it and not included both tracks on a new freshly remixed album. The de-luxe set is US $150 and UK £140 (I blame Brexit). It's a glorious package for one of rock's most iconic albums. But I've already got most of the video material and I am not sure how interesting some of those early takeS will be after a first listen. The 2CD set is about £20. And no "Carnival of Light". Unless it's tacked on as a hidden bonus after the inner groove. Here's the Promo video

Well, the box is impressive. I will definitely buy it. On the other hand, I am a little disappointed that they did not include a disc of the album with Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane incorporated into its track list as well as being on the bonus audio discs. It wouldn't have done any harm. I have just received my copy of the Flowers In The Dirt box set and the first thing I did was to download the downloads only tracks, burn them to CDRs and put them in the box. I might do the same with my own alternate version of Sgt. Pepper when I get the box.

I put the entire Box of Flowers In The Dirt into my iTunes Library so I can play it from my computer but I am not able yet to transfer it to my iPod Touch 6 which is kind of concerning me. People way more tech savvy than me say if you get FITD to your iTunes Library then you should be able to transfer it to your iPod or iPhone. I asked because when you download the songs using the access code card that come with the FITD Box, a window pops up saying that you can only download and play these on your laptop or desktop computer. I was assured that no, get them to iTunes Library and you can then do with them as you please(subject to all laws on copyright). Well, I got the entire Box contents to my iTunes Library but now can't get them transferred to my iPod so I can play them in my car or over ear buds when walking. I am glad to read KC that you were able to burn them onto a Disc which is what I will try next but I really want the entire Box on my iPod since almost all new car companies(except Nissan) are eliminating CD players in cars as standard options.
