I don't know what sort of treatment this will get but I suspect it will be similar to Pepper in various packages to suit different budgets. Will the Kinfauns demos turn up on the extras? Maybe that 20 odd minute Helter Skelter Jam? Will someone say that "Hey Jude" and "Revolution" will be returned to their rightful place on the White Album and then shove them both onto an extras disc? And finally will a remix improve the sound measurably? Revolution sounded great when the guitars were separated on the 'Love' remix.

I guess this will be a double deluxe box set, 12 discs. I need to start saving.

It could be wonderful, Esher and other assorted odds and ends included, long Helter Skelter.... I don't suppose it would come out until November 2018 though.

This is what I love whenever there is a forthcoming Beatles related release, or even prospective release: the full and unambiguous communication we receive from the parties involved.

Even if it's remixed the White Album will still be the Beatles worst album, it's the reason George Martin wanted it to be a single album.
The hardest of all the Beatles albums to listen to in one sitting.

It's YELLOW SUBMARINE, followed by LET IT BE, that are the worst Beatles albums. It always puzzles me that LIB is your favorite when as a George Fan his best songs are on THE WHITE ALBUM and ABBEY ROAD. The White Album is so uniquely different in the Beatles' canon. So many versatile styles of music on it, not as over-polished as their other earlier LPs. You've already got plenty of "single albums", which is what makes the White Album stand out. These days I've come to think of it as possibly their best. I don't listen to George Martin, I'll listen to this guy: No Joe , you are bonkers, you're arguments are so predictive, so limited, so confined, not worth commenting on, until you can expand on you're extremely limited view point. The White album is not their best. George Martin knew better than anyone, he developed them, he accepted they were too proud to give him the credit he deserved..He knew the White album was flawed.

Joe's right on this one. Of course, it's arguable that it's their best, but it certainly can be in the conversation. If I recall, and in my opinion, the White Album kept the Beatles in the game. If you look back at where rock music was at the time, FM radio was beginning to be the place where "serious" rock music was being played. Guitars were getting louder, songs less pop, songs getting longer, album tracks getting their due rather than just singles. Rock and grown up. It wasn't a teen medium. It was now college age. Look at the Woodstock lineup. Nothing "pop" there. If the Beatles were to be relevant, they needed to get back to being a guitar band. The White Album was competitive AND superlative. Sure, if one preferred the moptops or the psychedelic, one was being left behind, but there was a new game in town and the Beatles were playing. Also, it's diversity reminded that the Beatles were not one-trick sonic ponies. Still, no one could compete with them when it came to representing the span of Western music.

I've always loved the White Album.
It became the definition of what a double album should be. When an act says they are making a double album, you think "great!" They're going to go out of their regular format, they're going to take chances.
The White Album has always been in my top three favorite Beatles' albums list.

I love The Beatles which sees the return of George Harrison as a Rock guitarist and the return of John Lennon with an edge again(John was awesome musically from Revolver through MMT but kind of passive and mellow).
I believe the White Album is going to be remixed and ready for November 2018. Giles may have overspoke and the old geezers at Apple put him back in his place but he gave us the clues for this Pepper re-issue back when 1 was re-issued so I believe it is coming.
It must have stereo re-mixes like Pepper, it must have the cleaned-up Kinfauns demos, we heard the beauty of some of these on Anthology 3, and it needs re-mixed "Hey Jude/Revolution." Throw in the songs not making the cut although we did see those on Anthology.

The hardest of all the Beatles albums to listen to in one sitting. I actually like to do exactly that. I think the White Album is best enjoyed in one sitting, taking the rough with the smooth and enjoying the whole ride for what it is. It is the point the Beatles went "Indie" and retains a modern sound that their earlier albums did not have. I also think 'Let it Be' is a fine album too. In fact many of the songs on 'Let it Be' could easily be interchanged with those on "The Beatles". The only problem being that John was totally spent after a great contribution to the White Album. George was ready to step up to the mark by then but the old dynamics within the band and the inner circle didn't allow him to blossom to his full potential.

I don't think THE WHITE ALBUM is the Beatles best album and it certainly isn't my favorite. (I usually put it behind REVOLVER, SGT PEPPER, ABBEY ROAD, and RUBBER SOUL when I rank the albums), but it may be the Beatles most interesting album. It is the only Beatles album that I didn't absolutely love on first listen. There were multiple songs I didn't care for. Most of those I like more now, but there are still several I consider on the weaker side. Lots of people (including both George Martin and George Harrison) say it should have been a single LP. I disagree because there seems to be so little agreement on what songs should be on that single album. I could make my own single album that I personally would love. But others would make a very different compilation. The variety makes it different things for different people.

There was a couple of things I didn't like about the '09 release of the White Album.
The back cover should had been solid white. Instead they have the song titles and the acknowledgements. They had the slip cover which have the titles, acknowledgements and the bar-code. They could had left the inside back cover white.
Sort of along with this, the slip cover has the embossment of "the Beatles" and not the actual album. That may be a production issue. I'll give them that but the back cover should be solid white.
While you're at it, ditch the apple and "The Beatles" on the cover too. Put it on the slip-case.

What we haven't discussed here, unless I overlooked it, is whether the remixed versions of Sgt Pepper and the White Album are meant to replace the originals. I think we assume not, but is that assured?
I think the new Beatles 1 mixes are meant to replace the old. Again, I'd already assumed this because it seems obvious to me. The big fear when Naked was released was that it was meant to replace the original Let it Be. Most of us assumed that it wouldn't and we were quickly assured thus by Apple.
From what I've heard of the new Pepper, suggesting it replace the original would be a travesty.

I don't need older obsolete versions collecting dust. I tossed all my 1985 cd versions. The Beatles were about making everything better than before. That can still happen with their catalogue.

For me, the best packaged White Album was the 30th Year Anniversary one from 1998 that was even numbered! It had the same 1987 CDs but the packaging was authentic, certainly better than the 1987 packaging.

From what I've heard of the new Pepper, suggesting it replace the original would be a travesty. I think LIB Naked was a totally different project. The Pepper remix is based on the 'original mono' mix from 1967. That was the mix given the most attention and the way the Beatles wanted it to sound. It is also being released with the box set. By the 1970s the stereo version had replaced that mono mix as stereo equipment and cassettes became cheaper and more commonplace. By the time of the CD releases in the 1980s that stereo mix had replaced the mono version. The 2009 CDs are remastered. So although not remixed the sound levels and EQ were tweaked. From all account Giles Martin has tried to achieve the punchier sound of the mono mix in his new stereo 'Pepper' remix. My guess is that this is an upgrade on what has come before and will replace previous releases until the 60th anniversary re-re-mixed set!!!

The mix on the new release has sound that was buried deep on the mono and stereo versions. It sound more like a new mix than it does the old mono mix. It is more like LOVE than the mono. I'm very excited to hear it in it's entirety, and I'm sure a few versions will replace the old versions in my Best of Beatles Playlists. But the original 2009 master does not need to go out of print. UPDATE! But I could be wrong. I just played back the samples on iTunes. They don't sound that radically different. I think I might have been confusing the alt versions with the proper tracks. So,,, never mind.

When you rip them with iTunes, it says they have already been downloaded. Do you want to replace them? Say no and it makes copies but they show up as the same album; two track 1s, two tracks 2s.... You can sort by date and right click on the new versions. Select "Get Info" and rename the album. I added "2017" at the end. If you have a downloaded copy of the album cover, you'll have to add it. Or..., you can write over your 2009 version. I like the '09 vocal on Sgt Pepper, the title track, so I'm keeping both.
