I was listening to London Town the other day. I've always thought it a weak one in Paul's canon, though there are some pretty cool tunes on there and not typical ones (Cafe, Backwards, Moose, Down).
To the meat of the matter... Deliver Your Children which is a Denny co-write, has the line, "I can tell the dealer, by the colour of his paint."
Does anyone know if this is an expression or just something for the sake of rhyming.
PS. Dustbin lid could be rhyming slang for kid...

Gotta admit I've never heard that phrase ""I can tell the dealer, by the colour of his paint." My paint dealer tends to stock a variety of colours though. And I always thought that Dustbin lid was rhyming slang for a Jewish person.

I always thought "dustbin lid" was Paul wanting to say douche bag but it didn't rhyme and it was missing a syllable. Douche bag was a much more rude term at the time and I think he just chickened out on trying to use it.

Nothing came up when I Googled the line.
This is off topic, but I like the song, London Town, up to the point when Paul starts singing "toot, toot, toot, toot." Couldn't he have come up with something better than that? Talk about wrecking an otherwise good song.

The song always reminded me of the Penny Lane/Hello Goodbye era Paul, so I cut the "toot, toot, toot" a little slack.
