John Lennon had 13 US top 40 singles, so I added three that came closest to making the top 40 to get a nice even 16 songs.
So here are the matches (based on chart position):
#1 (Just Like) Starting Over vs. #16 Woman Is The N Of The World
#2 Whatever Gets You Through The Night vs. #15 I'm Steppin Out
#3 Woman vs. #14 Mother
#4 instant Karma vs. #13 Cold Turkey
#5 Imagine vs. #12 Stand By Me
#6 Nobody Told Me vs. #11 Mind Games
#7 #9 Dream vs. #10 Give Peace A Chance
#8 Watching The Wheels vs. #9 Power To The People

My Choices:
#1 (Just Like) Starting Over over. #16 Woman Is The N Of The World
#15 I'm Steppin Out over #2 Whatever Gets You Through The Night
#3 Woman over #14 Mother
#4 instant Karma over #13 Cold Turkey
#5 Imagine over #12 Stand By Me
#11 Mind Games over #6 Nobody Told Me
#7 #9 Dream over #10 Give Peace A Chance
#8 Watching The Wheels over #9 Power To The People
Surprisingly all pretty easy choices in this round. If I could switch Nobody Told Me and I'm Steppin Out my 8 favorites would all be advancing. I see some tough matches coming in the future though!

#1 (Just Like) Starting Over
#2 Whatever Gets You Through The Night
#14 Mother
#4 instant Karma
#5 Imagine
#11 Mind Games
#7 #9 Dream
#8 Watching The Wheels
I understand seeding--I've done a lot of tourneys--and that two songs that a player loves or doesn't care much for get paired. For me, the 3/14 are two that I don't like too much, and the 4/13 are a pair where I like both.
The only one that gave me pause was the 8/9, and those matches are supposed to be close!

#1 (Just Like) Starting Over
#15 I'm Steppin Out
#3 Woman
#4 instant Karma
#5 Imagine
#11 Mind Games
#7 #9 Dream
#8 Watching The Wheels
My biggest upset is voting for "I'm Stepping Out" over a certified #1 hit, WGYTTN. I do not remember ever hearing WGYTTN when it was a hit. I did not hear it until late 1976 when I bought Shaved Fish.
The rest were easy for me.

#1 (Just Like) Starting Over vs. #16 Woman Is The N Of The World (Just Like) Starting Over. An easy pick, although I do like the "Dance! Dance! Dance! Dance!" bit at the end of Woman Is.
#2 Whatever Gets You Through The Night vs. #15 I'm Steppin Out Whatever Gets You Through The Night. Another easy pick, although I do like Steppin' Out.
#3 Woman vs. #14 Mother Mother. I'm not that big a fan of Woman.
#4 instant Karma vs. #13 Cold Turkey Yeah, very tough pick. I'll go with Instant Karma.
#5 Imagine vs. #12 Stand By Me Imagine. Unfortunate match-up. I like Stand By Me a lot.
#6 Nobody Told Me vs. #11 Mind Games Very close, but I have to go with Nobody Told Me. "Roll!!!"
#7 #9 Dream vs. #10 Give Peace A Chance #9
#8 Watching The Wheels vs. #9 Power To The People Watching the Wheels (My number 1)

#6 Nobody Told Me vs. #11 Mind Games Very close, but I have to go with Nobody Told Me. "Roll!!!" I quite understand this vote but "Mind Games" was played by the WMET FM Chicago DJ right after he tearfully told us listeners to "brace yourselves" because John Lennon was pronounced dead on arrival at Roosevelt Hospital in NYC from gunshots wounds suffered at the Dakota. That was the night of December 8, 1980, and as the last words left his lips, "Mind Games" kicked on. That song immediately took on a meaning to me much more significant than I ever could imagine.

I hear that. I didn't hear Lennon was shot until the next day on the ride to work. I was carpooling at the time. I'm not sure why I hadn't heard it on TV. Maybe I had movie rentals that night. Everyone in the car except me had heard. We stopped and I got a newspaper. I still have it in a box somewhere. Of course we heard Lennon/Beatle songs all day on the radio at work. Nobody Told Me was classic John, from beyond the grave. All the attitude was there. All the wit. And it rocked!

#1 (just Like) Starting Over #2 Whatever Gets You Thru The Night #3 Woman #4 Instant Karma! #5 Imagine #11 Mind Games #7 #9 Dream #8 Watching The Wheels
All very straight forward. Really only the Whatever Gets You Thru The Night vs. I’m Steppin’ Out and Watching The Wheels vs. Power To The People match ups gave me any pause for thought.

It really is great even though John was not allowed of course to make final edits to the lyrics and it is written that Ringo was going to be given it.

Really only the Whatever Gets You Thru The Night vs. I’m Steppin’ Out and Watching The Wheels vs. Power To The People match ups gave me any pause for thought. I think it is cool that you paused for "Power To The People" because I easily brushed it aside. That song gets played nonstop on the Sirius/XM Satellite Radio The Beatles Channel of all things. But good for you KC digging it!

Going to close this round and post round 2 later today. All pretty cut and dry this round. No close matches. All the numerical favorites won except Mind Games, but I don't really consider that an "upset". Five of the eight are sweeps!
