My big box was delivered yesterday; box number 1930. The packaging was the best I have seen for such things, so I need not have worried about it being damaged in transit. It's truly a beautiful release, a virtual cornucopia of "postulate era" goodies. Not that I have listened to much of it yet, just a few random bonus audio tracks. How is it that Best Friend has remained unreleased until now? I like that one. In my opinion, if you were to delete Loup and the medley from side two of Red Rose Speedway and replace them with Night Out, Best Friend (live), The Mess (live) and delay the album's release so as to include Live And Let Die as well, you have one classic McCartney album. That sort of reflects my long held and so far unchanged opinion that there was only enough strong material for one really good album between Ram and Band On The Run. KC and Debjorgo, are you referring to the combined WWL and RRS Box? Yes. On other sites people are disclosing the serial numbers of their, so far, limited edition, sets. They are printed on the bottom of the outer box and also feature on the individual boxes held within. debjorgo's number is quite low. I don't think anyone has announced a number above about 3500.

Well, gents, how is the Wings 1971 -1973 combined Box? You two have been quiet(and Rocko too) so you must be immersed in it!

I didn't see kc's response when I replied to John earlier. I didn't click to the next page. I hadn't noticed the numbers on the individual boxes. The Wild Life and Red Rose boxes have an extra digit, i.e. 00466. Are the individual boxes numbered when bought separately?
I pecked through the Wings Over Europe songs but I really haven't listened to much of the whole release. I'm off work this past week and and haven't been in the car much. That's where I do most of my music listening.

I Am Your Singer Mary Had a Little Lamb (finally a High Quality Video)….Love it My Love

In the mis-heard lyrics department, in the song I Am Your Singer, I'd always heard the "you are my own melody" line as "you are my only O.D.". Which isn't a bad line either.

I don't have the Red Rose big box - in fact I haven't seen it for sale here in Australia - but I am very curious to hear what people have to say about Bruce McMouse....

I don't have the Red Rose big box - in fact I haven't seen it for sale here in Australia - but I am very curious to hear what people have to say about Bruce McMouse.... The cartoon bits are poorly written and thus their downfall but the Wings' concert footage is out of this world! Wings kick major ass in this film and I am not being biased just because of The JSD Postulate! Paul looks and sounds great! Every song is a winner, most much better than on record. The videos are posted above. "My Love" is in a proto-form as Linda counters vocally Paul on every "my Love" except at the end. It is much more a heartfelt Folk song here than the big ballad it became! Henry hasn't quite worked out that final, recorded guitar solo, one of the best on record, but it is still very touching. "The Mess" gives any 1972-1973 Rolling Stones' song a run for its money in Rock and Roll! Even "I Am Your Singer" is a winner live. I wish Paul did "Eat At Home" today, the Buddy Holly tribute is awesome live. The cartoon portions can be easily ignored as one digs the Wings! I hope you got to see it in the theater in Australia, it was showing in what, four cities?

Thanks John,
Yeah I saw a few of the clips above and agree that Eat At Home sounds great. I saw a few mice segments. The live stuff looks great. It's amazing to think this pre Band on the Run stuff has sat in the vaults for so long.
The film is showing but not at a theatre near me unfortunately.

Did anyone go see The Bruce McMouse Show in the one-night theatre run?
I did not as it was what, a Monday, and Chicago(2 1/2 hours away) was the closest to me!
I have the DVD and Blu-Ray of it from the RRS Box and while the cartoon bits are corny, every song kicks major ass! The Blu-Ray was only slightly sharper than the DVD version and the show is the only thing on both discs which is kind of a shame. On a separate DVD we get the James Paul McCartney TV special which likewise has some kickass performances although it has some dud scenes in it too.
I am in the clear minority but I think WWL and RRS are awesome! I have come to love even Side 2 of RRS which almost always gets slammed. I think the medley is catchy as hell! Yeah, it is gooey Pop Music but who does that better than Paul McCartney?!

If Paul had a few hard rockers on Red Rose, like The Mess and maybe Soily, I'd been right there with you John. But as it were, Red Rose Speedway had no Mumbo.

Ouch, hit me where it hurts, Debjorgo, as you know I love "Mumbo!" Yes, I love the studio version of "The Mess" and that was needed on RRS.
I do get some of my Rock and Roll fill from "Big Barn Bed" and "Get On The Right Thing" from Side 1. But I am happy to get my Pop Music on too and RRS is filled with delicious hooks and other Pop confections that make an enjoyable listen for me.

I knew that would get you. It's hard for you to argue against a "no Mumbo" statement.
I can't get past comparing the medley with the one on Abbey Road. Why couldn't it rock as hard? I also lump Red Rose in with the other solo Beatle releases at the time. Mind Games was weak and Living in the Material World was a disappointment too.
I was ready to give up on solo Beatles until Paul started fighting back. Live and Let Die, Helen Wheels, Jet....
RRS is a lot better in this latest listen. I've enjoyed this box set quite a bit.
The later mix of Mind Games makes it a whole lot better. The sound is great on Material World, George just needed to lighten up a little. Mrs. O'Dell and maybe something with some more guitar would had helped.

The later mix of Mind Games makes it a whole lot better. The sound is great on Material World, George just needed to lighten up a little. Mrs. O'Dell and maybe something with some more guitar would had helped. I totally agree that the re-mixed Mind Games(mid-2000's) or even the remastered one of 2010 really jack-up that album as the original sonics were dead thus lessening one's enjoyment of MG. And context is everything and people were expecting so much different material from John in 1973 but in 2019 we can enjoy each song without any such preconceptions(and this is very true for Paul's WWL and RRS). And yes LITMW is quite serious so that is why it took me until George's death to really appreciate and love it because by 2001 I was now well into adulthood and had taken some knocks in life and I really "got" the often world-weary sentiments expressed throughout that album. I thought that it always sounded good sonics-wise. I was given RRS vinyl album on my birthday in 1978 and while I love the packaging(and the naughty pictures inside) I didn't really get into the music until years later when I was developing The JSD Postulate. Suddenly the clarity on how beautiful early Solo Paul was just hit me like a bolt of lightning! If I was banished to an island prison and could only have one CD I could be happy with RRS! It might not be my first pick but if compelled to select it I could find contentment from it in my isolation. I think it is varied enough. LOL maybe Ringo Starr was the 1973 winner with RINGO!

I think we can give Ringo '73. Band on the Run didn't really "break out" until '74.

Well it looks like I won't be getting the Wings Boxset (1971-73)
I'm shattered JSD, what is Sir Paul up to?
Hello Rocco, We regret to inform you that we are not now going to be able to supply the Paul McCartney & Wings limited edition Wings box set.
At the end of last year Universal Australia advised us that this set was available through their special import service coming from Europe and could be ordered with delivery within a few weeks.
We placed an initial order with them and then further orders during January. Each time we ordered and additionally at other times we asked them about the availability of the set and they confirmed it was available to order, that our orders were in process, and that they were scheduled to be delivered to us within their expected time frame. They restated all of this as late as the end of last week when we again queried the status of our orders. Yesterday they told us that the sets are no longer available "at present". They later advised that the set is now deleted.
We are extremely sorry about this. We feel frankly we have been somewhat led up the garden path on this release. We have had plenty of good experiences of obtaining items through the import service and this is the first time any item has been cancelled.
We will be refunding you through your payment method Paypal.
Once again apologies for this disappointing news.
Kind regards Paul

I just looked on Ebay and they have one going for A$2500!
I was one of the lucky ones who got in early and managed to secure a copy. I must say though that I think it is completely unfair to the thousands of McCartney fans worldwide who might have been perfectly happy to buy this thing in their own good time that the big box now indeed seems to be a limited release. I see no good reason the two studio album boxes could not have simply been released individually only, as in the past, with a separate live set made available. Surely the latter would have sold sufficiently to replace the money made on the short run big box?
