Here's the trailer. To be honest, I'm not really looking forward to this. It doesn't do much for me. What do you think?

Here's the trailer. To be honest, I'm not really looking forward to this. It doesn't do much for me. What do you think? I think this is going to be a really fun movie. Since it's Danny Boyle, I doubt it's going to be cheesy. What I think the theme ultimately going to be is about is the songs. Despite all the mania, the myth, the personalities, the charisma of the Beatles, when it comes down to it, it was the music that really changed the world, not the lads. Even George, Ringo, Paul, and John would agree that it was the music, not them, that was important. Can't say this about Paul, for a certainty, but I think the other 3 would think it was cool if they were remembered, but I don't think it was THAT important to them. But, if their songs continued to be part of the essential canon like Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, traditional folk songs, jazz/pop standards, etc, they'd be proud of that. I don't know exactly what the plot of the movie will be, but if it's about the joy, resonance, and meaningfulness of the music, and how it should be cherished, I'm in.

That's what I'm thinking as well. This could be wonderful; I hope it is. There was a segment on local TV about this movie a couple of days ago. The scene where Ed Sheeran is trying to convince the "writer" of Hey Jude that the lyrics should be "hey dude" instead is priceless.

I will wait for it to come out on Blu-Ray. I kind of enjoy films like Across The Universe and I Am Sam that feature Beatles' music. This will be lightweight entertainment.

I don't know why your statement "I will wait for it to come out on Blu-Ray" bothered me. You certainly are free to say that and there's nothing wrong with it, but it bugged me. Maybe because, from my perspective, it reminded me of all the people I know that sleep, eat, work, watch TV, and sleep - everyday. That's it. That's their life. I'm not saying that's how you are, for I don't really know you outside of this board. I know you're a smart guy, and very level headed, and I've respected you for a long time, so don't take this as a judgement towards you. I guess it triggered my feelings about how hard it is to get people to go out to see my band. We have a very, very narrow window of when to play. We won't do Sunday to Thursday because most people get up for work. That leaves just Friday and Saturday. Even at that, we won't book anything after 10:00 because no one we know will go out that late. That leaves only 8 or 9 o'clock sets to even have a CHANCE to have people come out. Even at that they won't go out once they are in for the evening - at 6:00! I think your statement also reminded me of all the people who have said they will wait for a movie to come out instead of reading the book. Jeez! Anyway, thanks everyone for letting me rant. JohnS, you know we've gotten along very well here, so don't take this post as a comment about you. You're gold with me. You just reminded me of hard it is for me to get people to "come out and play" in the evening. Pete Townsend said, "I hope I die before I get old." Seems a lot of people I know "died" when they reached 40.

Sometimes I sleep, eat, work, sleep, watch TV, and sleep. Love that nap!

Believe me, when Jackson's LIB Supplement comes out, I will go see it at the theatre and I will probably have to travel but will make a night out of it! I have purchased your band's music legally through iTunes and I would gladly go out and see it live if the opportunity presents it. I think my remark was that I am simply not that enamored with this particular film. I drove all the way to Ft. Wayne Indiana(90 miles) to see the Ron Howard Beatles' movie so I like to go out and live a little. But I have a nice A/V system at home and maybe I'll enjoy "Yesterday" more in the comfort of my home. On the other hand, maybe a hot babe will drag me to it then I will recant my remark quoted herein!

The trailer is a lot of fun. I am very much looking forward to this movie. Anything that can potentially bring the music of the Beatles to more people is a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

Just saw the movie today. Liked it a lot. Now, it's not going to win any awards, but it was fun, entertaining, and not cheesy. It's a Rom/Com so the relationship part of the story is something you root for as it moves along. I have to say that seeing it in a theater was fun because it was a shared, communal endeavor, rather than being alone.
I won't give anything away, but the cameo at the end made me think about something that I had not even thought of as I've read reviews about the movie. It was a point that I missed while reading some critiques about the movie not really delving deeply into how the world would be different if there were no Beatles or even exploring the idea that Beatles music today would not mean a thing to anyone. I'll discuss my point in a few weeks after people have had a fair amount of time to see the movie.
I think all naysayers should see it. Take a chance. You will be pleased that you did.

I saw it last night, and enjoyed it. It did commit a cardinal sin for me, though--it could easily have been better. A few scenes went too long, a couple more needed to continue a bit more, there were some unanswered questions. Given my VAST movie making experience, I'm sure I could have given them good advice as to make it better, better, better... But I go back to my first line--it was enjoyable. JcS

I kinda wish I had as well, but I knew with all the talk about it, I'd see or hear a spoiler. Plus, there's a senior in high school that I have gotten interested in the Fabs--he is a drummer, and at first, didn't think Ringo was THAT great, but now he gets it--and he asked me if I'd want to go with him to see it when it was released. So we did. It certainly won't lose anything on the small screen. JcS

I went and saw it last week on a day when it was five dollars to get in. I wasn’t real enthusiastic about it after seeing it. It’s OK. It’s not really a Beatles movie though. It’s more a romance than anything else. I wouldn’t go see it again. There is a “surprise“ that’s kind of nice. But I wouldn’t go see it for that.

I saw Yesterday yesterday and I liked it more than Steve but less than maybe sayne! No spoilers but in the big surprise scene I completely embarrassed myself by loudly gasping! LOL, "Yesterday" was being shown in our cinema's small theater with 20 or less seats and there were only six of us watching. I loudly gasped at the surprise scene and quickly pretended to cough least anyone thought I was getting emotional(which I did!). It is fun, nothing too deep although on the internet our fellow Beatles' geeks are going way too deep.

Yeah I'm man enough to say I cried like a baby seeing 90 year old Brian Epstein talk about the band that slipped through his fingers and even more ironic that he ended up with Elton John .

My original recordings are confined to posting on Fandalism.
