There seems to be at least two new books on John Lennon's last year, the not yet released(slated for December 7, 2020) The Last Days of John Lennon and the September 2020 released John Lennon 1980: The Last Days In The Life: or That second one seems to be available in paperback only. This one might have been originally released years ago, it seems familiar but I am just finding a September 2020 release and it keeps popping up on this Board's pop-up ads. And because it seems to be available only in paperback makes me wonder if it has been out before but it is new to me! I'd be interested in both in any event since unlike with actual Beatles' history which I came upon after the fact, I was a total Beatles' freak in 1980 eagerly awaiting the historic musical return of John Lennon. I was vicariously part of this story unlike stuff that happened before really 1976 as I fell for The Beatles in September 1975 so that is when I started to become aware of Fab current events and started saving every newspaper clipping I found on them. So detailed reconstructions of 1980 as to John's return to musical form would appeal to me.

I guess it wouldn't be too sad. John seemed so optimistic in the interviews at the time.

I'll definitely look for these books when they are released.
I'm sure John's 700 mile sailing trip to Bermuda will feature, the son of a son of a sailor.
It was on this Bermuda trip where John encountered the freesia flower that would give his final album its name - Double Fantasy.

There are several photos of John on that sailing trip in the book that comes with the deluxe Gimme Some Truth including John in a yellow raincoat as he is steering the ship in what looks like a choppy sea. I am hoping to receive these books for my birthday and Christmas.

I've got both of these books, i've read the Kenneth Womack book, but not the Patterson book.
1980 is a very good read about John's life in 1980, Fred Seaman was an integral part of John's life that year. Imagine having a gofer at your beck and call.

Here's an interview with Kenneth Womack about John's final year.

That was an interesting interview. I liked the part about being on the Imagine boat, not getting recognized right away. Those little insides make the book sound like a good read.

I listened to the Patterson book; I checked out the CDs from the library and downloaded them onto my computer so I could do so at my leisure. As for Womack's book, seems like he was interviewed by Allan Kozinn, or maybe he was a guest on the podcast Things We Said Today that Allan hosts with Ken Michaels and Darren Devivo. I don't remember listening to it, though. | JcS

It probably will not surprise you that I have not gotten around to reading my hardcopy of the Patterson Lennon book!

It was OK, probably a bit better than I expected it to be. I learned some things about what Chapman had been doing before the assassination, and even a few things about Lennon's activity--very much minutiae, but you know how we fans like all the details.
I thought about copying it for a young Lennon fan I know--he has "Imagine" tattooed on his 27 year old arm--because I expect he would learn a lot.
