REVIEW: "WINGS OVER THE WORLD" DVD - MCDVD-13(Misterclaudel 2008)Because I'm not a hardcore post-Beatles breakup collector, I have to admit I'm not always up to date in their post 1970 output-- but I can tell you that the new Misterclaudel DVD release of the Wings documentary film, " Wings Over The World" was a nice surprise. I was expecting very sub-par quality based on what I had on an old VHS bootleg, and from other sources I've viewed from other collectors. What we have this time is an almost excellent copy of the documentary film made to promote the '75-'76 world tour produced by MPL Communications. For some reason I've always found this more interesting than watching the straight " Rockshow" film since this has a nice combination of behind the scenes footage and live performances (most performances complete). The audio is the best stereo I've heard and the image probably has the most true and accurate color representation available that I've ever seen to date here. From what I heard in collector's circles, this DVD was copied from an almost pristine VHS from a tv broadcast. There are moments when the video is near perfect and moments when there is a bit of blur, or ghosting of the image, but it's slight--basically tell-tale signs this was taken from an over the air tv broadcast. I've watched this about 3 times already and find it one of the better documentary pieces for it's wide range of behind the scenes footage and excellently filmed performances. This is a perfect and needed companion to " Rockshow" if it were ever to be released commercially on DVD-- though right now this disc is the one of preference over "Rockshow" for me. Search it out. Regards, Beatle Bob

I remember seeing that when it was first shown either late 1975 or early 1976. I was very impressed by the behind the scenes footage as well as the concert footage. It was based upon his opening shows for the tour in Australia around October of 1975. In the film Paul is asked whether he can still do it at 33 (he's twice that age now and still going) and he said just come to the show and see for yourself. And he certainly delivered. He was in very strong voice for that concert despite still smoking at the time though you seldom if ever see him smoking in public then. It makes me wish for 1972/73 and 1979 live releases.

'Wings Over The World' was first telecast in 1979. A friend of mine taped it for me at the time as I didn't have a VCR yet. I've since converted my tape to DVD and it doesn't look that bad at all.
