I know this should be in the Off-Topic section, but this is kind of time sensitive. Tonight, TV Cultural History is recreated with the return of Chiller Theater, hosted by Zacherle, The Cool Ghoul. For those who grew up in the New York City area, Chiller Theater and Zacherle were cultural icons that made watching cheesy horror films on TV on Saturday nights a lot of fun. The film being shown tonight is 'Tarantula'. It'll be on the WB11 in New York City at 8pm EST. This will a lot of nostalgic fun and should be taken as such. Just leave your brains at the door, Igor gets a 5 cents deposit on them. ;D www.wpix.com/wpix_chiller_theatre

If we're talking about the same movie, 'Tarantula', made in 1955, is one of my favorite 50s sci-fi movies. Not to give anything away but toward the end of the movie pay attention to the jet fighter pilot. None other than Clint Eastwood in his first movie appearance.

Shame on you, Fred with the OT post! I love these old (usually dumb) horror movies. My favorite -- one I haven't watched in a while, but that I might drag out this Halloween -- is the original "Invaders From Mars" from the '50s. A real classic.

From 1968....'Night Of The Living Dead' still creeps me out after all these years. A definite Halloween favorite. 'They're coming to get you Barbara...'

JSD would love this -- The “It's Alive!” 2008 Zombie Fest Monroeville Mall 10/25/08 to 10/26/08In honor of the 30th anniversary of the film, "Dawn Of The Dead," Zombie Fest features vendors selling zombie and horror-themed items, zombie films, author discussion panels featuring award-winning horror writers, and lots of activities for zombie fans of all ages. George Romero's 1979 film "Dawn Of The Dead" is the story of how a group of people try to save themselves from a zombie-invaded world by hiding in Monroeville Mall. Admission is free. Presented in conjunction with the local TV show, "It's Alive." I used to live over by the mall...our weekend hangout. JCV

Don't cane me, Steve, I was led astray!!! Like I mentioned, the post was time sensitive and I was afraid folks might miss it on the regular OT Board. Still, this is all just for fun and nostalgia and should just be enjoyed for what it is. And, one of my favorite Z-Horror movies? 'Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla', which starred the erstaz Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis rip-off team of Duke Mitchell & Sammy Petrillo.

I have several of the box sets from Mill Creek Entertainment that puts 50 of those things together for a cheap price. I've never mentioned this here, but I have an Amazon store astore.amazon.com/50moviepack-20 with a bunch of those sets in them. Tales of Terror and Drive-In Movie Classics are my two favorites. If you're interested in reading some of my DVD reviews, the blog is at dvdwatch.blogspot.com . I haven't done many lately, but I do one on occasion and also round up DVD news, too.

How did your Fall Break camping go, Winston? Hopefully no fire ants or crabs in your sleeping bags! You went camping right? Yes! That's right! No fire ants or crabs, but we did have mosquitoes! Also, 2 of the dads in the other tents were snorers... Other than that, only a little bit of rain. The lady who owned the camp was an ex-Scoutmaster, and she let the Scouts use the camp for free! She also had the boys go on a hayride, and then did a glass-blowing demonstration for the boys! I know, you guys are thinking, "Big whoop, Winston!" but we had fun! So there!

Don't forget that CHILLER THEATER is more special to me and my life than even The Beatles! I am a horror movie fan first and foremost!
It was nice to see channel 11 in New York recognize CHILLER again, but it was really very lightweight. I already own the movie TARANTULA on DVD, so th eonly reason for tuning in was to get that old vibe about watching cheesy monster movies on "live" broadcast TV. I wixh we could return to those old days where horror movies of old were routinely shown on programs like CHILLER and CREATURE FEATURES. But oh well...

Since you're in the NYC area too, there's a good chance Zacherly will be hosting a Halloween show on WCBS-FM. For those outside the NYC area, you should be able to pick up the show on WCBS-FM's live stream off their website. wcbsfm.com/

Yeah, in my area, back in the day, we had Dementia 13 that showed old horror movies every Friday night, great fun! And Elviria, Queen Of Darkness (I think that was her title) had a similar show on Saturday nights. Those were fun times.
A short list of some of my favorite 50s horror movies, in no particular order...
The Blob The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms Creature From The Black Lagoon I Married A Monster From Outer Space The Monolith Monsters Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1955) The Beginning Of The End Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman Them!
Some are considered sci-fi but I think sci-fi and horror movies pretty much go hand in hand.
