I am mainly posting this for the puntastic headline: Let It Beef - Macca Pic at Liverpool McDonald'sVEGGIE campaigner Sir Paul McCartney has blasted McDonald’s after accusing them of using his picture to flog HAMBURGERS. Macca, a vegetarian for 30 years, hit the roof after hearing staff at the fast food chain had put up pictures of the Beatles to attract customers. His portrait appears alongside bandmate John Lennon and fellow veggies Ringo Starr and the late George Harrison at a Liverpool branch. Sir Paul’s spokesman Geoff Baker fumed: “What sort of morons do McDonald’s think Beatles fans are? “It’s ridiculous and insulting to use images to peddle hamburgers. Fans should boycott McDonald’s — and not just in Liverpool.” Sir Paul’s late wife Linda, who died in 1998, had her own range of veggie grub while he is president of the Vegetarian Society of Great Britain and an ambassador for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. A PETA spokeswoman said: “He became a vegetarian after watching lambs play in a field outside his home and surely would not want anyone to use his likeness to help promote meat. “We hope anyone who sees his picture on the wall will be reminded that he’s a vegetarian and skip the Big Mac for a veggie burger.” A McDonald’s spokeswoman insisted the pictures were to “acknowledge the outstanding contribution the Beatles made to both local and global culture”. www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1780669.eceAnyway, I am looking forward this evening to enjoying a Venison burger with duck fat chips at the local gastro pub before going off to see the Ray Davies musical, Come Dancing, at the Theatre Royal Stratford East.

I wonder if Paul is really calling for a boycott of McDonald's. Have to wait and see if he says anything in future interviews about this or if PETA picks up the story.

And boycott McDonald's milkshakes until the dairy milk in them is replaced by human milk per PETA! Thanks for sharing that, waitrose(and welcome back!). I think the Liverpool McDonalds used Beatles' images because it is just that: the Liverpool McDonalds. I don't think that establishment thought that people would buy more hamburgers because of the photos. My local Applebee's has a cool wall display of Beatles' memorabilia but it serves meat so I will stage a demonstration to show solidarity with The Beatles. The Beatles(Apple) will thank and heap praise upon me. I will post pictures here of Paul and Ringo shaking my hand and Yoko and Olivia kissing me passionately.

I've been on this today and from what I can tell, Paul has nothing to do with this. I have emails from Paul's reps saying it was not official. It all stems apparently from the Geoff Baker quotes. He was wrongly labeled as McCartney's spokesman, but hasn't been since 2004. There was no official statement from McCartney. The PETA quote also apparently had no connection to Paul. And now you know the rest of the story.

I did find the sudden re-emergence of Baker as Paul's spokesperson rather curious. But Geoff proved very prescient about Heather, so maybe he should be called back into service to suss out Nancy. Or at least critique her new burkha.
Applebee's is far from the only restaurant--okay, eating establishment--that displays Beatles stuff. Of course there are all the Hard Rocks, lots of meat on the menu there. We even have a local eatery with pictures of music stars floor-to-ceiling. Unless someone is photoshopping Paul drooling over a burger, what's the problem? Especially in Liverpool, where there are pictures, statues, and other renderings of the Beatles everywhere.
Really, does anybody go to McDonald's to look at the pictures? This is incredibly silly stuff, but then PETA is known for its over-the-top antics. Besides, I thought Paul had changed the story of his conversion on the road to vegetarian Damascus. As I recall, the lambs in the field were retired for an unfortunate fish flopping around in a boat. PETA's working off an old script.

I thought it wasn't true to begin with because I knew PETA called for a McDonald's boycott not Paul and someone just reinvented the story.

Waitrose - would this be the infamous Joey Barton branch of Macdonalds? I think it probably is.

Well, this is a perfect example how false information gets spread around and becomes an urban legend. Last night my wife and I were driving home from her big out of town birthday dinner (she shares her birthday with Mr. Lennon, how lucky for her Beatles' obsessed husband!) and the oldies station we were listening to played "Jet." Afterwards the DJ starts blowing Paul crap for his "call to boycott" McDonalds and this DJ even quotes "McCartney spokesman Geoff Baker!" The DJ says, "Come on Paul, I love you and the Beatles but this is ridiculous!" Having been so educated by this Thread from waitrose and Steve M.'s research, I was yelling at the radio, screaming that this is PETA's call and that Baker doesn't speak for Paul. My birthday girl once again rolled her eyes and in her now mantra laconically said, "You take your Beatles way to seriously!"

Waitrose - would this be the infamous Joey Barton branch of Macdonalds? I think it probably is. Now, if they could ban Joey Barton from football, or maybe just assaulting his fellow players/members of the public, that would be a far more effective use of PETA's immense energy
