Yesterday, I had a customer of mine tell me that he had an encounter with Paul McCartney in 1982 in New York. He happened to be in the right place at the right time when Paul was leaving a hotel for a jog. He asked Paul if he could shake his hand and McCartney gave him a sideways squeeze! The thing that he remembers is that Paul was shorter that he expected with a large head! He said he also had buggy eyes. He went on to say that he really didn't look like he thought Paul McCartney would look up close.
I know some of you out there have met Paul or seen him up close. What are your remembrances? Did Paul have a big head?

See, Paul is always trying to one-up John. We all know that John had the bigger head!

Paul and John both have/had enormous sized heads. The certainly dwarfed Ringo's. This is something Pamela Mason and others used to talk about. She was the wife of famed actor James Mason. She noticed that when she went to Hollywood parties, most if not all of the biggest stars had huge heads in comparision to the rest of their bodies. I remember her mentioning Clark Gable and Humphrey Bogart in particular. Perhaps it makes them more photogenic or more likely to convey their expressions on screen.

I remember reading an interview with Paul in Crawdaddy magazine way back in the early 70s. (Yes, I'm THAT old) He told a story about writing the songs for Red Rose Speedway. Apparently, the original title to the opening track was "Big Darn Head". However, he was always a bit "on the herb" and whenever he sang the main line, it always came out as "Big Barn Bed". They decided it was a sign, so they kept it and changed the name of the song.

However, I did skim through a book on Style (in dress, etc.), and in the forward it mentioned that Cary Grant had a big head, but hid it well because of the way he picked his clothes. Very interesting!

As a child, the size of John Lennon's head on the cover of Meet the Beatles used to freak me out...in comparison, Paul had a teeny head I thought..

I wish I could find the place where I posted my unfortunate New York encounters with Paul (the story is too long to keep re-writing, and it's more convenient just to copy/paste). He didn't strike me as having a big head, but he definitely was pretty mean one time.

Although Paul recorded "Pretty Little Head" it seems this wasn't autobiographical !

If you see the full picture they used for the cover, John is standing in front, then George is standing behind him and Paul is standing behind George. Thus we have the perception of head sizes not meeting reality. All you see lit on the cover are the heads and not the shoulders which reveal the true pose.

Yes , RTP I'm well aware of perspective NOW. As a child though, it was freaky!
